Staff Writer - Indian and Asian Issues 


Are you a writer who cares passionately about animal issues? Do you have in-depth knowledge of animal rights topics in India and the Asia-Pacific region? Then this is the job that you've been looking for.

You'll be keeping your finger on the pulse of animal rights issues in these areas and using your expertise to write engaging text in a variety of formats, including for newspapers, in-house publications, and the Web, in order to keep these issues in the public eye. You'll be working on a wide variety of projects each week, covering all facets of animal rights, from animals used for food to animals used for entertainment. Position Objective:

To write engaging copy in a variety of formats, with a focus on animal rights issues in India and the Asia-Pacific region


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Create content that is uniquely designed for specific writing projects and campaigns of PETA India and PETA Asia

• Formulate and produce unique projects, campaigns, and slogans

• Stay on top of current events and trends in India and other Asian countries and devise ways to keep animal issues in the public eye

• Write articles and copy for PETA India's and PETA Asia's in-house publications

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Position Requirements

• Degree in journalism, creative writing, English or a related field

• Minimum of two years of professional writing experience, which may include writing for newspapers, magazines, or other publications

• Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA India and PETA Asia campaigns

• Extensive knowledge of Indian culture and customs (an understanding of one or more Indian languages will be helpful)

• Experience writing for the Web a plus

• Proven ability to make sound judgments and work independently

• Proven ability to meet deadlines while under pressure

• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

• Proven ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through

• Support for PETA India's and PETA Asia's philosophies and the ability to professionally advocate their positions on issues

• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
