This position is funded through a government program (Canada Summer Jobs), which creates summer job opportunities for youth; therefore, eligible candidates must be:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. International students are not eligible participants. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

The Position

The Motion Analysis Centre team is looking for a candidate with experience in data analytics, signal processing, and biomechanics to aid in the optimization of the clinical gait analysis processes.

The successful candidate will aid in data analysis, quality control processes, and in automating the clinical report generation process using Cortex, MATLAB, Theia3D, and Visual3D for clinical gait assessments. These assessments are performed to aid in surgical decision making, rehabilitation planning, orthotics prescription and to answer relevant clinical questions.

Compensation: $17.60 per hour. Employees will receive an additional 4% in lieu of vacation and paid statutory holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing Clinical Gait Assessment: Assist with data collection, processing and interpretation of clinical gait assessments to aid in surgical and rehabilitation decision making.
  • Data Screening: Ensure data quality for physiological data, identify and address causes of poor signal quality.
  • Reporting & Visualization: Responsible for creating clinical gait reports using Cortex, Visual3D and MATLAB to be presented at surgical rounds.
  • Documentation: Creates and maintains documentation related to data processing and analysis pipeline processes.
  • Collaboration: Works with interdisciplinary clinical team to clarify and improve upon data collection, reporting and client care.
  • Process improvement: Propose ways to improve processes to reduce errors and improve accuracy of 3D motion capture equipment (i.e. motion capture cameras, force plates, electromyography sensors).
  • Compliance and standardization: Ensure compliance with international gait assessment centre recommendations and assist in standardization of protocols and procedures.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Enrollment in or completion of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Kinesiology, or equivalent education/experience is required
  • Proficiency in analytical programming languages related to movement analysis (Visual3D, MATLAB, Python)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently, and in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy, and physics
  • Pediatric experience and experience working with children with disabilities preferred, but not required
