Position Requirements

Ideal candidate possesses excellent oral and written communication skills, including public presentations; strong strategic thinking and organizational skills; is adaptable; and reacts quickly and creatively to changing circumstances.  Experience in working with volunteers, building networks and partnerships to achieve a desired outcome, and comfort in the philanthropic community are essential.  A degree in marketing or communications, or a related field supporting development; 3 - 5 years fundraising, marketing or sales experience is required. Experience with Raiser’s Edge fundraising database is ideal, but the ability to adapt to new applications and databases is sufficient.


OBJECTIVE: Responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to raise annual and special campaign support for COSI through fundraising events, peer-to-peer fundraising, social media and web-based campaigns, cause marketing, and other community outreach.   


  1. Provide leadership for COSI’s strategy for special event and community giving, including planning, internal and external coordination, implementation, donor and volunteer meetings, as well as donor recognition planning and benefit fulfillment.
  2. Manage a portfolio of individual and organizational donor relationships.  Maintain a high standard for recording moves management in Raiser’s Edge and coordinating with other solicitors/supporting relationships.  Identify opportunities to grow donor portfolio through prospect development and relationship building. 
  3. Oversee COSI’s signature fundraising events, including a luncheon and gala, from concept to stewardship. Provide leadership for the theme and program development, fundraising planning, logistics coordination, and post-event stewardship and engagement.  Coordinate with other development relationship coordinators and engage volunteer leadership groups to advance solicitation strategies to meet fundraising targets.
  4. Create and implement community-based giving campaigns to engage new donors with opportunities to enhance relationships with current supporters.
  5. Oversee the creation of an alumni relations strategy to advance relationships with COSI alums, including an ongoing communication and engagement strategy.
  6. Serve as the staff liaison to the Young Professional Board volunteer leadership group; helping to recruit, train, and engage committee members to create and advance grassroots fundraising and advocacy programs.  Oversee the implementation of Young Professional Board projects/events, including Cocktails with COSI.
  7. Actively participate in the relationship management process, including prospect research and identification, stewardship and solicitation strategy development, as well as the generation of new ideas to contribute to COSI’s fundraising capacity.
  8. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  9. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in the mode best serving Team Members, Volunteers, and Guests.
  10. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Development.
