General Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the Juvenile Division Director and Casework Supervisor, supervises and directs the activities of employees assigned to the oversight, instruction and behavioral management of children in the day treatment program. Oversees and coordinates the guidance, direction and personal interaction in lessons and activities and participates in the planning and development of student programs and activities. Coordinates security and related instructional matters. Supervises and counsels day treatment probationers and attempts to modify or eliminate behavioral problems.

 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Functions as a supervisor with responsibility for the training, oversight and performance of employees engaged in, participating in, and monitoring the day treatment program.

 

  1. Functions as a caseworker for post-dispositional youth who are placed in the day treatment program. Supervises students on probation in the day treatment program. Ensures that conditions of probation are followed. Meets with students and counsels them on a variety of emotional, psychological, and behavioral problems. Monitors, evaluates, and documents students’ progress.

 

  1. Serves as a liaison with the courts, schools and the day treatment program. Advocates for students to be returned to the public school system as warranted. Assists in student transition back to school. Provides regular reports to the court on progress, and attends hearings for students.

 

  1. Maintains student records as well as employee records and all required reporting. Prepares and submits various reports as directed.

 

  1. Coordinates with teachers and plays a key role in planning and implementing activities.

 

  1. Orders and purchases supplies for the day treatment program. Tracks and accounts for supplies and identifies ongoing operational needs.

 

  1. Meets with parents, caseworkers, counselors, teachers, teacher consultants and other parties and participates in developing customized, individual education plans.

 

  1. Performs all the duties of a Juvenile Day Treatment Monitor. Instructs children in life skills with counseling, parenting, cheerleading, advocacy and other personal intervention designed to create and nurture a positive learning experience.

 

  1. Develops extracurricular activities for children and participates in same.

 

 

  1. Maintains ongoing relations with teachers and teacher consultants to assure that the focus of workload is consistent with teaching objectives. Maintains regular contacts with professional and social service agencies that provide students with counseling, testing, and guidance.

 

  1. Administers drug tests/prescribed medications.

 

  1. Serves as the administrator for the student records software program. Maintains consistency and discipline pertaining to data entry and access.

 

  1. Directs and participates in all aspects of the transportation of students.

 

  1. Assures a high level of flexibility in work assignments; shifting activities and focus in response to changing classroom needs.

 

  1. Performs other duties as required.

Position Requirements

Employment Qualifications:

 

Education:

A Bachelor’s Degree with primary coursework in social work, special education or a related field.

 

Experience:

Three years of experience working with children in a school or social services setting, including at least one year of casework experience with juveniles in the justice system.

 

Other Requirements:

Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

 

A Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.


Certification by the Michigan Judicial Institute as a Juvenile Court caseworker.

Working Conditions:

 

Works in an office setting, classroom setting, courtroom, and the field. May be required to visit dwellings or facilities at which conditions may be uncomfortable or unsanitary while performing job functions.
