Blog Writer 


The PETA Foundation is looking for a creative, skilled blog writer to produce content for PETA's website. This is a great opportunity for a professional writer to use his or her talents to help save the lives of animals by writing about a variety of animal issues each week and keeping the public up to date on PETA's latest news. You should live an animal-friendly lifestyle and have professional writing experience, extensive knowledge of the animal rights movement, and the ability to meet tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment, work well as a team player, and be ready to employ the power of the pen as a champion for all animals.





Position Objective:

To write content for PETA's The PETA Files blog


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:        

• Brainstorm daily content for PETA's blog

• Write witty, informative, entertaining, and newsworthy entries within deadlines

• Provide unique and engaging interpretations of news and pop culture events and trends that affect animals

• Monitor trends in blogs and assist with the implementation of new strategies for PETA's blog

• Write nonblog projects for Writers Group on an as-needed basis, including letters, action alerts, and news releases

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor


Position Requirements

• College degree in a related field or equivalent experience

• Minimum of two years of professional writing experience, including writing for blogs, newspapers, magazines, or other publications

• Previous Web writing experience and thorough knowledge of search engine optimization

• Thorough knowledge of the blogosphere

• Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns

• Demonstrated ability to write in a variety of tones, including humorous, snarky, and somber

• Proven ability to take initiative, work well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines

• Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and deal with a variety of people in a professional manner

• Proven excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

• Proven excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills

• Adherence to a vegan lifestyle

• Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues

• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
