Position Requirements

Ideal candidate possesses a High School Diploma or equivalent; excellent customer service skills; and previous supervisory experience.  A valid Ohio Department of Agriculture Commercial Applicator License in category 6 (Ornamental plant and shade tree) and category 8 (Turf pest control); or successful completion of the Pesticide Safety Training for Trained Servicepersons within one (1) month of hire, and the ability to obtain a Ohio Department of Agriculture Commercial Applicator License in category 6 (Ornamental plant and shade tree) and category 8 (Turf pest control) within six (6) months of hire is required. The ability to maintain yearly certification is mandatory. A valid Driver’s License; two (2) or fewer points on BMV record for insurance purposes; and the ability to maintain a good driving record are required.  Must currently have or obtain upon relocation, a Driver’s License issued by the State of Ohio.  Familiarity with sustainable landscaping practices; some mechanical maintenance experience; and grounds maintenance experience are preferred qualifications.


OBJECTIVE:  Support COSI’s mission by providing a safe, clean, comfortable, and healthy environment for COSI Guests and Team. Work with COSI Grounds Team Members to ensure COSI’s grounds and parking lots are kept in a safe, clean, and well manicured condition.



  1. Provide labor support for COSI’s Grounds Maintenance Operation.
  2. Operate and maintain all COSI Grounds support equipment.
  3. Cleaning and waste removal from COSI Grounds and parking lots; and irrigation system scheduling and maintenance.
  4. Turf maintenance including fertilization; weed control; aeration; over seeding; pre and post emergent treatments; mowing; trimming; and edging.
  5. Hard scape maintenance, including power washing; weeding; and periodic repair of East and West entry areas, Science Park, North and South courtyards, sidewalks, and parking lots.
  6. Mulching in tree beds and within COSI planted areas.
  7. Leaf and snow removal.
  8. In the absence of the Grounds Supervisor, coordinate and supervise COSI’s Part-Time and Temporary Grounds Maintenance Technicians and conduct grounds maintenance activities in a manner consistent with COSI policies and strategic vision.
  9. Assist the Grounds Supervisor with the training of Part-Time and Temporary Grounds Maintenance Technicians.  Set an example of attitude and enthusiasm for the Grounds Maintenance Team Members.
  10. Support COSI’s Facility Maintenance Team as requested by the Grounds Supervisor.
  11. Drive the COSI owned Grounds truck, and other Grounds maintenance equipment; as needed.
  12. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  13. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
  14. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor.
