Teaching Assistant - P-Tech Drone Workshop Facilitator at Long Island
Position Purpose
rone Workshop Facilitators will work with high school students participating in the P-Tech Program to support hands-on learning in drone technology and basic aviation concepts. Facilitators will assist in delivering drone workshops, help students learn safe drone operation, and guide them through practical activities related to drone flight, technology, and STEM applications. This work may include traveling to partner schools, assisting with workshop instruction, and supporting students during hands-on drone activities.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
• Assist with preparing materials, equipment, and activities prior to scheduled drone workshops.
• Support the facilitation of drone workshops for high school students participating in the P-Tech Program either on campus or at partner schools.
• Help students learn the fundamentals of drone technology, safety procedures, and basic flight operations.
• Support the workshop instructor during demonstrations and hands-on activities involving drones and related equipment.
• Guide students individually or in small groups as they practice drone flight and complete workshop exercises.
• Assist with the setup, testing, and safe handling of drone equipment and workshop materials before and after workshops.
• Help maintain a safe learning environment by ensuring students follow drone safety guidelines and instructions.
• Assist with STEM outreach events, demonstrations, or special program activities related to drones and aviation.
• Provide support with administrative or operational tasks during workshops or events such as welcoming students, assisting with sign-ins, and distributing materials.
• Maintain a log of workshop participation, student engagement, and assistance provided during activities.

Education and/or Experience Requirements.
• At least 30 college credits with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Must have expertise and prior experience in UAS systems.
• FAA Part 107 Certification is preferred.
Professional Skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Knowledge in UAS systems, drone laws, and the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification.
Reasoning Ability
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Work Environment and Physical Functions
This position is in a classroom/office environment. Generally, an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within the office area. The office equipment, either individually used or shared with a department, is the responsibility of all employees.
Compensation:
• The entry-level compensation rate for this position is a stipend of $200 per workshop.
