Description

This role will support two exoskeleton-based research studies at Holland Bloorview, in which metabolic and biomechanical data will be collected during assisted walking tasks to evaluate the impact of powered lower-limb exoskeleton use on brain activity and energy expenditure. Please note this position requires availability on Fridays and weekends, as well as flexibility to work outside standard business hours as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the research physiotherapist in accordance with the research study procedure
  • Assist the research team to ensure accurate implementation of the full experimental protocol
  • Document physiotherapy sessions and participant response
  • Support the research team in maintaining a safe, ethical, and child-friendly study environment

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Canadian community college PTA program
  • Must have a minimum of one year work experience as a PTA
  • Demonstrates initiative and self-direction regarding equipment maintenance, safety and cleaning
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection and management 
  • Able to work comfortably with different technologies
  • Experience with children and/or non-verbal individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent organization, time management, and priority setting skills
  • Solid problem-solving skills with a desire to learn
  • Demonstrated understanding of a client- and family-centred approach to research
  • Demonstrates skill in understanding cultural differences
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic background 
  • Experience with an exoskeleton/ Trexo would be an asset
