About the Program

The Get up and Go Persistent Pediatric Pain Service is a specialized rehabilitation program designed to help children and youth regain function and return to their usual daily activities while living with chronic pain.

This program is intended for children and youth aged 12 to 18 whose ongoing pain is impacting their ability to participate in everyday activities such as attending school, socializing, or taking part in leisure and physical activities.

Get Up and Go is a program that is structure as a 4-week intensive program comprising a 2-week inpatient stay followed by a 2-week day patient program.

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with clients/families and the interdisciplinary team, provides client and family-centred care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented
  • Supports and respects the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences
  • Demonstrates a spirit of inquiry by examining current practice and identifying questions for study and research
  • Delivers care based on established policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with the client/family to assess, plan, and provide a diagnosis documenting the process according to professional standards and hospital policy with respect for the client’s right to confidentiality
  • Documents on client charts and accurate workload statistics
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner with families and interdisciplinary team members
  • Participates in appropriate education and training sessions
  • Supervises psychology practicum and internship students
  • Demonstrates accountability for own psychology practice by adhering to established professional practice standards and hospital policies
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
  • Participates in program evaluation as part of clinical practice
  • Flexibility to work across other inpatient units

Qualifications

  • PhD in Psychology and Registration with the College of Psychologists Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario required with declared competencies in Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents.Competency in health psychology is preferred.
  • Declared competency working with children, adolescents and family is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is essential
  • Works effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrates ability to organize time and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates initiative and self direction
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities
