Description

General Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the Central Dispatch Director or designee, works within the Central Dispatch Center. Receives and handles 911 emergency calls and non-emergency calls. Follows established policies and procedures and obtains needed information from callers to determine the severity and urgency of the problem. Decides appropriate response and dispatches the proper emergency personnel. Also communicates emergency medical procedures to callers when necessary. Enters facts and information into a computer aided dispatch system and performs other clerical and administrative tasks.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Receives emergency and non-emergency calls, assesses their relative severity and urgency, determines the appropriate response, and dispatches needed emergency personnel and vehicles.

 

  1. Communicates emergency medical information and procedures to callers.

 

  1. Screens and refers calls which are inappropriate for 911 response system.

 

  1. Enters calls for service and other information into the computer aided dispatch system

 

  1. Performs a number of other support tasks, such as data entry, caller follow-up, mapping, LEIN entry and others.

 

  1. Provides pre-arrival instructions on medical calls. Provides LEIN information such as warrant confirmation, extraditions and other.

 

  1. Performs other duties as required.

Education:

  • A high school diploma is required.

  • Ability to regularly make decisions in critical and stressful situations.

  • Ability to perform the physical tasks associated with office operations.

 

  • Ability to withstand prolonged periods of sitting in front of computer.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Works in an office setting.

 

  • Ability to work varying shifts in a 24-hour day operation.
