Position purpose
The Academic Success Coach proactively supports a caseload of students in their studies at Vaughn. The
Academic Success Coach will engage in outreach interventions on a regular basis.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
• Provide proactive academic advising and success coaching to an assigned caseload to support
retention, persistence, progression, and timely graduation, with primary emphasis on
Flight/Aeronautical Sciences.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned cohorts, supporting course selection,
registration, degree planning, and flight training progression.
• Develop, monitor, and update individualized degree completion and flight training plans in
collaboration with students and relevant college offices.
• Maintain accurate student records and case notes in student information systems; track outreach,
engagements, and outcomes in accordance with established communication and inquiry
management protocols.
• Monitor student academic and flight training progress; identify risk factors and intervene early
through referrals to appropriate academic and student support services.
• Provide students with accurate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic
policies, procedures, program guidelines, and institutional resources.
• Assist students in navigating college- and university-level administrative processes related to
enrollment, academic standing, and progression.
• Support recruiting, outreach, and engagement initiatives, including open houses, orientations,
major fairs, and workshops for prospective and current students.
• Deliver virtual student support services, including scheduled coverage of the Zoom Front Desk.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development to remain current on academic
advising practices, aviation program requirements, and institutional policies.
• Meet established customer service standards, performance benchmarks, key performance
indicators, and productivity expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

A. Education and/or Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or a field related to flight/aeronautical sciences;
B. Professional Skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated excellence in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
• Demonstrated professionalism, including the ability to treat others respectfully and to speak
courteously;
• Ability to work independently;
• Ability to follow up on tasks as appropriate.
C. Reasoning Ability
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions;
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
D. Work environment and physical functions
This position is located in an office environment. Generally, an employee needs to be able to sit, stand
and navigate within the office area. The office equipment either individually used or shared with a
department is the responsibility of all employees. This position is based on our campus in Queens, NY.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (in-person 4 days a week and remote 1 day a week),
subject to change based on college policy and the business needs of the division. Specific days and
schedule will be determined between you and your manager. Appropriate workspace will be required for
remote work.
Preferred:
• Knowledge of topics in the discipline of aerospace/flight or related field.
• Experience using SONIS (or similar student information system) for records retrieval.
• Experience providing advisement to college-level students.
Salary: $57,500-62,500
