Job Opening for 2026-2027 School Year

Grades taught K-12th (Elementary, Middle, and High School)

  • Starting at $42,000.00 per year
  • All teaching experience will increase the total amount of salary
  • Advanced degrees will increase the total salary amount

JOB GOAL: The Art Teacher will develop in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using the skills and techniques of artistic expression. To develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art. The teacher’s goal is to impart to students the knowledge, wisdom, and information in a biblical manner. To plan, instruct, and organize instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their spiritual, educational, and social development. The principal will evaluate this job's performance annually in accordance with the job description. There are also frequent formal and informal evaluations and observations by the department head. Conferences are held with the principal after each formal observation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and submits lessons that reflect a biblical worldview
  • Listens to children’s concerns/issues and applies biblical solutions
  • Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
  • Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
  • Understand the versatility of paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, under-painting, mono-printing
  • Understand a variety of “masters” techniques
  • Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
  • Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, color theory, and art history
  • Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media techniques
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
  • Instruct students in the proper care and use of tools and equipment
  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
  • Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records
  • Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community
  • Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees
  • Provides clear learning goals in line with WCA’s instructional standards
  • Evaluates students (formative and summative) based on the learning objectives
    with a variety of assessment tools
  • Implements research-based instructional methods and technology to enhance
    student’s engagement
  • Implements integration of technology and research in grade-level subjects in
    coordination with the computer personnel
  • Uses instructional time fully for students’ interaction with academic content
  • Maintains consistent communication with parents
  • Responds as soon as possible but no later than 24 hours to parent, student, teacher, and admin inquiries via phone and/or e-mail during the regular work week
  • Maintains accurate attendance and academic records
  • Teaches and tests higher-level thinking skills
  • Demonstrates skill for teaching students of all ability levels/learning styles
  • Demonstrates personal organization skills
  • Maintains an orderly, organized, and structured learning environment
  • Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the classroom
  • Attends required school meetings and functions
  • Is punctual and meets deadlines consistently
  • Administers discipline consistently
  • Handles classroom disruptions with empathy toward students; addresses the concern through biblical counsel, directing students to resolutions and appropriate consequences for growth and discipline
  • Demonstrates the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5) in personal and professional activities
  • Demonstrates an active concern for the development of Christian character among the students
  • Keeps certification current and participates in continuing education
  • Exhibits respectful, pleasant, and professional attitudes and conduct
  • Accepts and implements suggestions for improvement
  • Demonstrates professional support for the administration and board
  • Attendance is an essential job function
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION, LICENSING, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the area being taught
  • Two years of work experience as an art teacher
  • Classroom experience is desired (with elementary as well as upper grades)
  • ACSI Certified within two years of hiring
  • CPR/First Aid certified

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exhibit a consistent Christian testimony (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ (John 3, Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • Participates in a local Bible-believing church
  • Applies biblical solutions to problems
  • Personal integrity and self-motivation in the fulfillment of the WCA mission
  • Speak, read, and write English fluently
  • Desire for continued career improvement
  • A calling to Christian education and a love for students
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a team
  • Ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, and telecommunication
