Position Summary

The RN Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, coordination, and evaluation of daily nursing activities on a 24/7 basis. This position ensures that quality care is delivered consistently, policies are followed, staffing is adequate, and all resident needs are met in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 24-hour oversight of resident care and nursing staff during assigned shifts.
  • Receive full shift report from outgoing Supervisor and ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor staffing levels based on acuity and adjust as necessary for safe operations.
  • Respond promptly to crisis situations, emergencies, and unexpected resident needs.
  • Ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Review and assist with updating care plans; ensure care plan changes reflect current resident needs.
  • Complete and review accident/incident reports and follow up with DON/ADON and QA as required.
  • Investigate allegations of resident abuse, neglect, or misappropriation and report promptly.
  • Maintain and submit required census reports and nursing audits.
  • Conduct rounds to ensure high standards of resident care and environmental safety.
  • Serve as a resource and support system for nursing staff, promoting teamwork and professional growth.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance processes, including meetings and reporting.
  • Communicate changes in resident condition to physicians, families, or responsible parties.
  • Assist with nursing orientation and continuing education for staff.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed to support staffing or resident care demands.
  • Participate in facility surveys and interact professionally with regulatory agencies.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the DON/ADON.

 

Qualifications

  • Nursing degree from an accredited college or approved RN program.
  • Active, unencumbered RN license in the state of Texas.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience preferred (minimum 1 year).
  • Ability to make independent decisions and respond appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of long-term care standards, nursing practices, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Strong communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with residents, families, staff, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to handle emotional and stressful situations with professionalism and stability.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, and remain on-call as needed.

 

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work performed primarily indoors with frequent interruptions.
  • Regular walking, standing, bending, lifting, charting, and interacting with residents and staff.
  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and bodily fluids; must follow infection-control standards.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment or residents over 50 lbs as needed.
  • Must be able to handle emotional stress and function independently.
  • Ability to assist in evacuation procedures and emergency responses.
