Ideal candidate works well in a dynamic, collaborative team environment; is flexible and organized; possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with young children, primarily birth through kindergarten, parents, teachers, and Team Members. Must possess informal science education experience and/or experience working with children from infants to kindergarten. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and an ability to quickly learn new software and new skills is essential. Must have excellent driving skills: a valid Ohio Drivers License with two or fewer points on BMV record for insurance purposes; and the ability to maintain a good driving record. BMV record check is required. Stamina for lifting, loading, unloading, and set-up of heavy objects is needed. A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis or certificate in birth to grade three or related field required.
OBJECTIVE: Support COSI's mission by providing quality programs with a focus on Early Childhood Education outreach. Represent COSI in the community and build relationships with schools and community partners by serving as primary facilitator and coordinator for external ECE programs. Work with educators, parents, experts, school and community members and other COSI Team to coordinate and deliver programs and materials that meet audience needs, are developmentally appropriate, and address the various learning styles of the participants. Interact with Guests and program participants in all Early Childhood programs and little kidspace®. Assist in the support of daily operations of Early Childhood Education programs and little kidspace®.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
A. Participate in work related to COSI’s Strategic Areas of Focus of Early Childhood Education to ensure the success of this initiative for COSI, including but not limited to work creating and implementing the ECE Master Plan.
B. Responsible for the management, facilitation, and evaluation of all external Early Childhood Education programs. This includes, but is not limited to, toddler and preschool outreach, family nights, field trip workshops, family programs and grant programming.
C. Lead role in developing, updating and maintaining content for all external Early Childhood Education programs, meeting state standards. Work closely with the Manager of Program Content Design and the Manager of Early Childhood Programs, following proper processes and procedures in content development.
D. Coordinate scheduling and operational logistics of all external programming with the Call Center and with school and community partners.
E. Update, maintain, order, and keep an inventory of all supplies necessary for external programming.
F. Assist in creating and implementing the budget as it relates to Early Childhood Education external programming.
G. Document the impact and effectiveness of Early Childhood Education outreach programs through photography, text, and other creative methods.
H. Provide appropriate training and evaluation for part time and volunteer Team members on program facilitation and work with the Manager of Early Childhood Operations to identify performance improvement opportunities.
I. Lead role in evaluating and updating all program evaluation for external Early Childhood Programs using institutional tools and methods. Responsible for keeping survey/feedback tools current and providing reports on the results as requested. Work with the Call Center to provide avenues for Guests’ feedback. Address any problems with families or Guests attending programs.
J. Primary facilitator of external programs, including, but not limited to toddler and preschool outreach, family nights, field trip workshops, family programs and grant programming.
K. Work in tandem with the Manager of Early Childhood Operations and lend support as needed; annually spending approximately 20% of time working shifts that will include holidays, weekends, and evening hours as the point person on the museum floor in little kidspace®.
L. Assist and support in the review and evaluation of Early Childhood Education marketing materials.
M. Stay current on trends, methods, and research in Early Childhood Education by professional development, formal and informal education, and by attending and presenting at COSI U, professional conferences, and informal educator meetings.
N. Take part and attend internal and external meetings representing Early Childhood Education as appointed by the Director of Early Childhood Strategic Initiatives.
O. Maintain a current knowledge of COSI’s total program and experience offerings.
P. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
Q. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
R. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
S. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Strategic Initiatives and/or Vice President of Programs.
