Position Summary

The Security Guard assists with the day-to-day functions of the facility’s security program to ensure resident and employee safety at all times. This role is responsible for monitoring facility grounds, enforcing security procedures, and responding to potential safety concerns or incidents.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete required security reports, paperwork, and documentation and submit to leadership.
  • Conduct routine tours of facility grounds, checking doors, windows, gates, and entry points to ensure they are properly secured.
  • Inspect the premises for irregularities such as signs of intrusion, utility interruptions, or security breaches.
  • Monitor and inspect alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems to ensure readiness.
  • Respond to alarms, investigate disturbances, and detain unauthorized individuals when necessary.
  • Maintain regular radio or phone communication with security leadership during assigned shifts.
  • Monitor employee vehicles and packages entering or leaving the premises when required.
  • Report any suspected unauthorized attempts to access the facility’s information systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information, including protected health information.
  • Assist with departmental studies, improvement projects, and policy compliance.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with residents, staff, medical personnel, and community agencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of verifiable security experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to hospital or nursing home security.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and respond appropriately in urgent situations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with residents, families, visitors, and staff professionally.
  • Must be well-groomed, patient, tactful, and able to handle difficult or emotionally upset individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold company values of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Ability to cope with the mental and emotional demands of the position.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work performed primarily indoors with routine tours of the property.
  • Frequent interruptions and interactions with residents, families, staff, and visitors.
  • Occasional exposure to hostile or emotionally distressed individuals.
  • May require working evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended hours as needed.
  • Potential exposure to bodily fluids or infectious waste; must adhere to safety protocols.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Regular walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment or supplies over 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to move throughout the facility intermittently during the workday.
  • Must be able to handle the mental and emotional stress associated with security responsibilities.
  • Must be able to interact professionally with elderly, disabled, ill, or upset individuals.
