About the Organization The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston's first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. Our mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. The Houston SPCA is a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, which receives no funding from the Government, United Way or national animal groups.

Description

Essential Functions of the position:

  • Coordinate the entry of data and mining of information, as well as maintain database integrity primarily in Raiser’s Edge database. Ensure data/records are current, accurate and unduplicated.
  • Enter constituent data, such as demographics and changes/updates to mailing information.
  • Process donations and payments from various channels including, but not limited to, telephone, mail, in-person and online and maintain donor records and new gift entry.
  • Serve as initial/primary contact by answering all incoming calls and responding to questions via email, letter or phone call as appropriate. Acknowledge all donations/payments using the appropriate medium in a timely fashion.
  • Research reconciliation discrepancies.
  • Extract information, export data and generate ad-hoc reports and mailing lists from Raiser’s Edge as requested and assist with general analysis as it relates to fundraising and donor recognition. Accurately record and track report dates required for any funding source.
  • Maintain and produce event invitation mailing lists and assist in the producing letters, envelopes for mass mailings.
  • Execute annual (or as needed) database clean-up activity for department. Provide donors with information about Houston SPCA programs as requested.
  • Address and resolve donor problems and concerns in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Consistently process transactions for various donor programs (i.e., kennel and brick sponsorships, auto donations)within acceptable time frames.
  • Assure confidentiality of donor information and internal communications.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, skill and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the position:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with one year of related working experience
  • High level of typing accuracy and speed required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, primarily Excel, and internet research/navigation required
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred but not required
  • Understand, promote and follow the mission of the Houston SPCA
  • Ability to display exceptional service and represent the Houston SPCA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff
  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Houston SPCA, with department consultants, volunteers and the public; be a team player
  • Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and electronic form. Strong attention to detail required
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures
  • Able to stand, bend, squat, walk and talk for up to eight hours a day; able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Able to work flexible schedule including weekend and evening shifts
