Description

Carlington Community Health Centre is a non-profit organization committed to improving the health and well-being of diverse communities. We offer a variety of services designed to foster positive change and build strong relationships with the families we serve. Our EarlyON Child and Family Centre provides community-based playgroups and early years programs designed to support the developmental needs of children from birth to age six, as well as their families. We focus on creating nurturing environments that support healthy child development, empower parents and caregivers, and strengthen families through community-based learning.

  • This position required an RECE: you must be registered as an ECE with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.

Role Overview

The Early Childhood Development Worker (ECDW) at our EarlyON Child and Family Centre works as part of a dedicated team to provide high-quality, inclusive early years programming to families with children aged 0-6. The ECDW will deliver playgroups and early years programs that stimulate child development, strengthen parenting skills, and foster positive family dynamics. Using a child-centered, play-based approach, the ECDW will support children’s growth within the context of their families and communities. This position requires working closely with families, caregivers, and other community partners to ensure the program meets the needs of all children, particularly those from marginalized and diverse backgrounds.

The ECDW will ensure that all programs align with provincial guidelines and best practices for early years programming and that they meet sector best practices.

 
Position Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver playgroups and early years programs that promote child development and support families with children aged 0-6.
  • Create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for children and families.
  • Implement play-based, child-centered activities, with a focus on nature-based play, aligned with Ontario’s early learning framework.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and community partners to enhance children’s development and parenting skills.
  • Provide ongoing support and resources to families and caregivers through effective communication.
  • Work in person at the main location and at various satellite sites, as required.
  • Provide coverage and/or support at the main site or satellite locations, with in-person attendance required.
  • Be available for occasional weekend shifts, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Mandatory: Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or equivalent experience in early childhood development, with a valid registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Experience: 3-5 years working in early childhood settings with children aged 0-6. Experience running playgroups or drop-in programs is an asset.
  • Other: Experience working with marginalized communities, including low-income, high-needs, and newcomer families. Familiarity with program development and evaluation, as well as working in a non-profit, community-based organization, is preferred.

Linguistic Profile

  • This position is not designated under Carlington’s French Language Services Plan.
  • Fluency in French is preferred.
  • A third language relevant to our client population is an asset.

Salary Range $25.36 - $29.82 per hour
