Description

The Health Promotion and Community Development Coordinator will play a pivotal role in planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion and community engagement initiatives tailored to address the diverse needs of the community. They will collaborate closely with staff, residents, local organizations, and stakeholders to develop effective outreach strategies aimed at promoting health equity. The coordinator will oversee community engagement initiatives to foster active participation and building strong relationships within the community. Through these efforts, they will strengthen community ties and empower residents to take an active role in their health and well-being. Additionally, they will facilitate focus groups and surveys to gather input from residents, ensuring that programs are responsive to community feedback and identified needs. The coordinator will also oversee essential administrative functions, ensuring seamless program operations, while providing mentorship and supervision to program staff and volunteers.

Program-Related Activities

  • The Health Promotion and Community Development Coordinator leads the planning, delivery, and evaluation of community-based health promotion and engagement initiatives. Working closely with staff, residents, local organizations, and stakeholders, the Coordinator develops outreach strategies that promote health equity and foster strong community connections. This role ensures programs are responsive to community needs by facilitating focus groups, gathering feedback, and promoting resident involvement.
  • In addition to program development, the Coordinator oversees daily operations, supports quality improvement efforts, and ensures compliance with relevant standards. They supervise staff and volunteers, manage budgets, and maintain key administrative functions to ensure efficient program delivery.
  • Manages daily programming across multiple community sites.
  • Oversees staff scheduling, supplies, and expenditures within budget.
  • Supports continuous quality improvement and monitors service delivery.

Program Support & Development

  • Supports evaluation, development, and implementation of new and existing programs.
  • Stays informed on local community trends and needs.
  • Assists with accreditation, accountability initiatives, and funding proposals.
  • Provides updates and reports to the Program Manager on strategic priorities.
  • Leads resident engagement programs (e.g., CDF, PINS).
  • Coordinates community-led initiatives and empowers local leadership.
 
Position Requirements

Education

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or another university degree in a related field required. An acceptable combination of education and experience in a related field may substitute for the university degree.

Professional Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in community development and health promotion.
  • Minimum of three years’ supervisory experience, ideally within a community-based setting.
  • Background in non-profit and community organizations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with community leaders, organizations, stakeholders, and residents to support overall community wellness.
  • Experience working with marginalized and diverse populations, including low-income individuals, newcomers, older adults, and multicultural communities.
  • Skilled in program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Experience in group facilitation and familiarity with adult learning principles.
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Proficient in data collection, analysis, and reporting tools.

  • Proven ability to lead project and change management initiatives.
  • Strong skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, planning, decision-making, leadership, organization, and managing change.
  • In-depth knowledge of health promotion principles, strategies, and approaches.
  • Familiarity with community development models and frameworks.
  • Skilled in developing and delivering programs through interdisciplinary and collaborative methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience working effectively in multicultural, multidisciplinary team settings.
  • Commitment to fostering teamwork and modeling collaborative practices.
  • Demonstrated client-centered approach to service delivery.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local community resources and supports.
  • Proficient in using computers and various software, including Microsoft Office, client databases, and electronic record-keeping systems.

Linguistic Profile

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Languages: Advanced French (spoken comprehension) and Intermediate French (writng), third language an asset.

Salary Range $38.06/hour - $44.77/hour
