Description

The Dietitian provides nutritional care and develops, delivers, and evaluates nutrition-focused programs and services for individuals, families, and communities within a primary health care setting. The role emphasizes health promotion, food security, community development, and client education, especially among marginalized and diverse populations.

Program-Related Activities

  • Conducts nutritional assessments and develops individualized nutrition care plans in line with College of Dietitians of Ontario standards.
  • Assesses clients’ nutritional health considering cultural, socioeconomic, psychological, and clinical factors, as well as food literacy.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates nutrition-related treatment, education, and health promotion programs for individuals, families, and communities.
  • Develops and delivers community-specific nutrition promotion programs based on research and needs assessments.
  • Educates groups on nutrition, emphasizing health promotion and illness prevention through a self-management approach.
  • Conducts community nutrition and food security assessments; supports initiatives to address food access barriers.
  • Creates and maintains culturally and financially appropriate nutrition resources.
  • Regularly evaluates programs and services, recommending improvements as needed.
 
Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s in Nutrition; dietetic internship or equivalent; Registered Dietitian (College of Dietitians of Ontario)

Experience

  • Three to five years of full-time experience providing clinical counselling and community nutrition services within primary health care and community-based settings.
  • Proven experience in group education, with a strong understanding of adult learning principles and group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with marginalized and diverse populations, including low-income individuals, newcomers, those with mental health challenges, and multicultural communities.
  • Skilled in program development, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Background in working with non-profit, community-based organizations.

  • Proficient in group facilitation and small group development.
  • Able to collaborate with cultural interpreters.
  • Proficient with computers and software including Microsoft Office, client databases, and electronic records.

Linguistic Profile

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Languages: Advanced+ French (spoken comprehension) and Internediate French (writing); third language an asset.
