Overview
The Trade-Up / Equity Consultant plays a key role in generating new-vehicle sales from the dealership’s existing customer base by engaging clients who visit the service department. This position is responsible for identifying positive equity situations, presenting personalized upgrade options, and creating a seamless path from service to sales—helping improve retention, loyalty, and overall dealership profitability.

Service Drive Prospecting

  • Monitor daily service appointments and customer RO history to identify equity and trade-up opportunities.
  • Greet service clients during their visit to build rapport and introduce upgrade possibilities.

 

Equity Evaluation

  • Use CRM and approved equity mining tools such as Subaru’s Trade-Up Advantage to assess trade-in values, current loan/lease payoff amounts, and potential payment matches.
  • Prepare personalized trade-up offers that align with each client’s current payment or equity position.

 

Customer Engagement & Sales

  • Present upgrade options in a low-pressure, consultative manner while clients are already at the dealership.
  • Coordinate test drives, appraisals, and sales appointments with the sales floor and management teams.

 

Follow-Up & Retention

  • Maintain ongoing communication with previous service clients to build long-term relationships and encourage future business.
  • Follow up on declined offers to re-engage clients when new incentives or inventory become available.

 

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Partner with Service Advisors, Sales Consultants, and Sales Managers to ensure a coordinated approach.
  • Track results, including equity appointments set, show rates, and vehicles sold through the service drive.
 
Position Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain upbeat and professional attitude and ability to “soft sell” customers
  • Ability to learn data mining tools and software
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work independently
  • Knowledge of sales skills would be helpful
  • Outgoing personality with expertise at developing relationships
  • Knowledge of the English language, spelling, grammar, punctuation and numbering systems
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, motor vehicle and background check

 

Hours: Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
