Position Summary

The Charge Nurse RN delivers direct resident care and oversees daily nursing operations, ensuring care is delivered according to federal, state, and facility standards. This role provides leadership, clinical guidance, and support to nursing staff while fostering a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support nursing staff and CNAs to ensure quality care delivery.
  • Provide direct resident care including medication administration, treatments, and skilled nursing procedures.
  • Admit, transfer, discharge, and document resident status according to policy.
  • Conduct rounds on assigned units/shift to ensure staff are meeting nursing standards.
  • Communicate with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding resident needs.
  • Complete accident/incident reports and assist in investigations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation, including nurses’ notes, orders, and care plans.
  • Ensure medication administration is accurate, safe, and compliant with regulations.
  • Monitor narcotic records, report discrepancies, and maintain proper medication inventory.
  • Participate in orientation of new residents and families, as well as new staff training.
  • Support infection-control protocols, including monitoring for communicable diseases.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including changes in condition and end-of-life procedures.
  • Assist with post-mortem care, family notifications, and coordination with funeral services.
  • Promote resident dignity, privacy, and quality of life at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Nursing degree from an accredited program or approved RN curriculum.
  • Active, unencumbered Texas RN license.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of long-term care practices, regulations, and documentation standards.
  • Strong assessment skills and ability to make sound clinical decisions.
  • Professional communication skills with residents, families, staff, and agencies.
  • Ability to manage stress, handle emergencies, and work independently.

 

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Indoor work environment with frequent interruptions and interactions.
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, and charting.
  • Exposure to infectious materials; must follow PPE and safety protocols.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50+ lbs as needed.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under stress.
  • Ability to assist with emergency evacuations.
