Description

JOB SUMMARY: Provide day to day oversite of the Aquatics Area and Programs to ensure high standards of customer service, safety, and maintaining operations. Assist department leadership with administrative projects and facility maintenance duties as assigned. Provide regular lifeguard and swim lesson instructor coverage as assigned. Assist swimmers, instructors, and lifeguards with emergencies and customer service to create a welcoming and safe environment for all patrons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Oversite of programming and pool operations during assigned Head Lifeguard shifts.

• Address customer service questions and concerns to minimize follow-up for the on-duty lifeguard.

• Communicate changes in pool schedules, programs, and policies to staff and patrons.

• Coordinate emergency responses with the Aquatics Team and other departments following the Emergency Action Plan.

• Ensure proper staff rotation and breaks for lifeguards and water safety instructors.

• Troubleshoot and adjust programming and pool operations that arise.

• Perform maintenance and administrative duties to keep the Aquatics Area clean and safe.

• Assist with administrative and programming projects as assigned.

• Perform duties as Head Lifeguard, Lifeguard, and Water Safety Instructor as assigned. Fill in these roles as needed.

  Time Use (approximate – may change seasonally and by department or program needs):

  •   15-20 hours Head Lifeguard shifts (including administrative and facility project time)
  •   5-10 hours Lifeguard shifts
  •   5-10 hours Swim Instructor (WSI) shift, including group and private swim lessons
  •   Total of 30-40 hours per week – Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

• Reports to the Aquatics Manager with direction from the Aquatics Lead.

• Interacts with lifeguards, water safety instructors, water fitness instructors, Manager on-duty, pool patrons, and program participants.

 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• 18 years or older.

• 500 hours or more of lifeguarding experience.

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Deep Water 7ft+ Certification or equivalent, including CPR. Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or the equivalent.

• Proficient lifeguarding and rescue skills.

• Ability to lead teams and manage customer service situations.

• Ability to lead Learn-to-Swim classes and monitor student progress.

 

Preferred:

• 1000 hours or more of lifeguarding experience.

• 500 hours or more of swim instructor experience.

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.

• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or equivalent certification or experience.

• Ability to speak fluent English/Spanish or English/Somali languages.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to meet the physical demands of a lifeguard and water safety instructor.

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

• Must be able to work in an indoor pool environment – warm, humid, and occasionally loud.
