To learn more about what Roanoke Cooperative does, use the below link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OIvLihegpk   Description BASIC FUNCTION: This position is responsible for performing all work required in the construction, replacement and maintenance of transmission and overhead and underground distribution lines and equipment and service to or on members’ premises efficiently and in conformity with established practices to assure the members adequate and reliable electric service. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: System Improvement and Repairs (100% of time) 1. Promotes safe work practices daily. 2. Repair all types of single and multi-phase transformers installations, re-phasing and phase rotation on multi-phase circuits. 3. Installation, movement or removal of transformers, service drops, reclosers, poles, conductors, capacitors, regulators or any other line equipment. 4. Patrols transmission and distribution, overhead and underground facilities; learns to operate and maintain related equipment; learns distribution and transmission switching under supervision. 5. Performs “Hot Line” work on all lines and voltages of the cooperative, following prescribed methods and procedures, in all types of conditions. 6. Serves on “On-call” duty assignment. 7. Serves as assistant Line Tech Supervisor when crew is subdivided on jobs and can serve as Service Tech when required. 8. Helps teach and train others in a coaching capacity. 9. Attends safety and other meetings as required. 10. Is proficient at working all size voltage live conductors according to specifications with proper sag and tie-in.   Position Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in electric system line construction, operations and maintenance. Normally, at least two years as an Apprentice Line Tech and two years as Second Class Tech and completion of the JT&S school. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. 2. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. 3. Knowledge of cooperative safety rules and regulations, general safety laws, first aid procedures along with pole top and bucket rescue procedures and CPR. 4. Cooperative line feeds a pole numbering system. 5. RUS specifications, National Electric Safety Code and RC’s requirements regarding line construction and service installations. 6. The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking, so others will understand. 7. Be familiar with all relevant equipment, tools and testing equipment, their uses, repair and maintenance. 8. Promotes and maintains a high degree of morale. 9. The ability to recognize hazards that exist in the form of falls, electric shock, flash and traffic. 10.
