ROLE

The Senior Health Promoter is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating community-based health promotion initiatives, and for leading the day-to-day activities of the Health Promotion and Community Development team. These initiatives address the social determinants of health. This role includes extensive engagement with diverse communities, delivering educational programming, and building strong relationships with community partners. In addition to program delivery, the Senior Health Promoter represents the Centre in external networks, leads meetings with key stakeholders, and contributes to high-level reporting for strategic and funding purposes.

 
Position Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and professional qualifications

Master’s degree in public health, Health Promotion, Community Development, Social Work or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in supervisory experience, preferably in a community setting.
  • Experience in a non-profit, community-based organization.
  • Three to five years’ experience in community development and health promotion.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience liaising with community leaders, organizations, stakeholders and residents to foster collaboration towards the contribution to the overall wellness of the community.
  • Experience and interest working with marginalized and diverse clientele, such as low-income, high-needs, newcomers, older adults, and variety of multicultural communities.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in group education and knowledge of adult learning principles and experience facilitating groups.
  • Experience with writing successful grant/funding proposals, budgeting and reporting.
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis tools.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and model teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to model “client-centered” service delivery.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications, including Microsoft Office programs, client database software, and electronic record keeping in a client services setting.

 

Linguistic Profile

  • English fluency is required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

A - Program Related Responsibilities

The role involves engaging with the community, particularly priority populations, to assess needs and develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs. It promotes leadership, capacity-building, and community action on social issues. The position supports outreach, resource development, and advocacy, while ensuring confidentiality and accountability. It also includes report and grant writing, and supervision of volunteers involved in program activities.

B- Senior Role Responsibilities

The role involves managing daily operations, programming, and staffing across various community sites, ensuring smooth administrative systems and compliance with service standards. It includes quality improvement, program monitoring, reporting, and budget oversight. The position supervises staff, students, and volunteers, and ensures proper documentation and response to high-risk issues. It leads community development initiatives like Community Development Framework (CDF) and Post-Incident Neighbourhood Support Networks program (PINS), and represents the Centre in external collaborations.

 
Salary Range $35.03-$41.21 per hour
