About the Organization Alaska Center for the Performing Arts has been a downtown landmark and icon for over 30 years. We have served as an arts entertainment hub for the community with a diverse season delivered by our 9 resident companies and other presenters.

We are a non-profit organization founded to operate, promote and maintain a four-theatre complex which serves as a social and cultural meeting place for all Alaskan residents, the visiting public and performing arts presenters and producers.

Description

The Communications Manager serves as the oversight of the strategic voice behind the brand identity of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts (ACPA), its multi-venue campus, and key programs including Broadway Alaska, CenterTix, and ACPA Presents and Community Programs. This role is responsible for upholding brand integrity, ensuring consistent and engaging communication across all platforms, and leading internal communications in partnership with organizational leadership. The Communications Manager ensures ACPA is seen and heard as the cultural heartbeat of downtown Anchorage, reflecting the energy and diversity of its 8 resident companies, Broadway programming, community programs and events.

 

This position works collaboratively with ACPA leadership, all departments and ACPA stakeholders and clients to ensure cohesive messaging, strong community facing communication, and timely, brand-aligned content across digital, print, and onsite platforms.

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Brand Management

  • Develop and execute annual communications strategy, including regular updates to the ACPA Board of Directors, Municipality of Anchorage and State of Alaska, for ACPA and its core programs, maintaining alignment with institutional goals.
  • Steward the brand voice and visual identity of ACPA, Broadway Alaska, CenterTix, The Canvas and related sub-brands across all platforms and collateral.
  • Lead internal communications strategy in partnership with senior leadership, ensuring organizational messages are clear, timely, and consistent.
  • Demonstrated experience managing crisis communication in a nonprofit or arts environment, including crafting sensitive messaging, responding to public/media inquiries, and supporting leadership during organizational or reputational challenges.

 

 

Content Development & Platform Management

  • Oversee creation and distribution of content across all owned channels including websites, social media, email, signage, and publications, including coordination with contractors who support these areas.
  • Maintain content calendars and ensure consistent storytelling that supports programming, ticket sales, community engagement, and development and capital campaign goals.

Collaborative Marketing Support

  • Serve as the key communications liaison for resident companies and external presenters, supporting their marketing needs in alignment with venue policies and aesthetics.
  • Collaborate with the Development and Community Engagement teams to support program, sponsorship and donor communications.
  • Coordinate with rental clients on communications and marketing plans related to their performances at ACPA venues.

Public Relations & Community Presence

  • Support media relations efforts and together with President & COO and Community Engagement Manager serve as a public-facing representative of ACPA at events.
  • Ensure strong public presence that reflects ACPA’s role as a cultural and civic anchor in downtown Anchorage and for the State of Alaska.

Leadership & Supervision

  • Coordinate with Development, Marketing, Ticketing, Community Engagement and Audience Services to maintain strong communication and service standards for stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with national tour marketing representatives, agency partners, and local stakeholders to implement engagement strategies for Broadway Alaska and other initiatives.

Budgeting & Reporting

  • Develop and manage communication-related budgets and track outcomes for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics across communication channels and adjust strategy accordingly.
