General Description

Provides support for complex enterprise reporting solutions using the Web Focus Suite of tools and MS SQL Server as a member of the Statewide Longitudinal Data System team.Performs work at varying levels of complexity, under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for exercising initiative and independent judgment.Identifies, validates and documents customer requirements by providing daily support duties while being able to plan and accomplish longer term projects to meet deadlines.Reports directly to the Director of Educational Data Center.


General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Architects reporting solutions and delivery based on end-user objectives and requirements. 
  • Participates in the development of technical designs, implementation of reports, and development of test plans.
  • Provides ongoing support, administration, and performance tuning for reporting architecture, including development and maintenance of standards and life cycle processes. 
  • Provides guidance and training for junior staff on development and use of reporting tools.
  • Develops workable project plans and is accountable for activities to ensure delivery as planned, including escalation of issues related to scope, plans and schedules. 
  • Prepares and maintains necessary documentation; includes status and reporting progress to management.
  • Attends to work responsibilities regularly and reliably and works beyond regular hours to remedy issues and meet deadlines.
Position Requirements

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Graduation with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Seven years’ experience in information technology (IT) support
  • Four years’ experience in Web Focus development, with multiple implementation projects.
  • One year of additional IT experience may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the college work with a maximum substitution of two years.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have experience designing and developing complex Web Focus reporting solutions and managing a complex Web Focus reporting environment.
  • Must have experience using MS SQL Server 2008 databases in architecting reporting solutions. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of database design concepts to include relational databases (OLTP), and data warehouses (OLAP) and experience using modeling tools such as Erwin and Visio.
  • Must have experience collaborating effectively in a team environment and accepting accountability for team results.
  • Strong communication, organization, diagnostic, and problem solving skill. Must be able to engage customers and team members on complex issues.
  • Must have experience with high levels of accountability and must demonstrate initiative, flexibility and the ability to manage work on many different projects with minimal supervision.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Major course work in computer sciences or management information systems.
  • Knowledge of Higher Education Data collection.
