Description

Auto- Chemistry Supervisor

Overview

The position supervises the analysis of biological fluids for drugs of abuse. This individual leads the Auto-Chemistry laboratory section as it relates to problem solving, enforcement of and compliance to policies and procedures, process optimization, communication and reporting, record keeping and other laboratory operations in a forensic environment. Additional responsibilities will include the oversite of evening testing processes.

Salary range: $55000-$65000
The schedule for this role is Monday – Friday, Second shift

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

 

  • Auto-chemistry screening analysis of biological samples
  • Oversite of evening lab processes
  • Applies knowledge and skills to produce quality work and facilitate meeting TAT goals
  • New employee training and cross-training is completed and is in compliance with all lab rules, regulations, standard work, standard operating procedures and associated guidelines.
  • Collaborate with leadership to solve work-related problems within or between departments and sites, answering questions and resolving issues daily
  • Allocate work schedules, assignments, and analytical resources to meet production goals, respond to fluctuating workloads, and improve quality and productivity of laboratory operations
  • Determines proper levels of materials and maintains inventory to meet anticipated volumes, this includes weekly counts and ordering. Alerts management to critical inventory shortages.
  • Read and Maintain the Auto chemistry department: SOPs, regulations, best practices, guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures in coordination with the Scientific Director and General Manager
  • Enforce compliance of all policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and best practices for: Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP), safety, environmental, hazardous materials, equipment, and security guidelines
  • Ensure that all work is complete, accurate and meets our high-quality standards
  • Acts as an Information Technology (IT) contact for lab issues, system upgrades and new machine installation. Provides technical support for software testing.
  • Actively participates in all internal inspections. Technical resource and participant for external audits and inspections.
  • Performs or reviews audits of processes, work production, employee knowledge and competency and documents results.
  • Participates in employee performance appraisals.
  • Maintain personal accountability for attendance, productivity, training, and incidents with analytical staff
  • Approves timecards weekly and approves PTO requests
  • Assists in scheduling staff to assure optimum production and work coverage.
  • Responsible to maintain all safeguards as it pertains to Protected health information (PHI)
  • Assists with performing as a change agent, implementing improvements, and streamlined processes.
  • Provides support for team leads, assuring that personnel levels are appropriate for continuous workflow while maintaining first pass-through quality.
  • Prepares justification for increased workforce requirements.
  • Responsible for running daily reports and investigating misplaced samples
  • Reviews monthly QC and corrective actions, identifying trends for follow up
  • Works closely with QA manager to complete monthly reviews of QC, reagent prep, maintenance logs, equipment logs, etc. for submission to the Scientific Director
  • In conjunction with the Scientific Director, assures that all methods and validations are complete and meet certification and compliance requirements.
  • Ensures all scheduled instrument maintenance is completed on time and acts as additional liaison to service vendors

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science required plus 2-year lab experience
  • Previous supervisory or training experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Automated Chemistry Analyzers (EIA/EMIT preferred)
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Familiarity with CLIA and CAP accreditation requirements (desirable)#LAB123
