JOB SUMMARY:
The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the areas assigned. Duties include, but are not limited to, mopping, dusting, disinfecting, trash removal, window washing, carpet cleaning, meeting setup, pool cleaning, snow removal, lawn care, and other general cleaning responsibilities. YWCA Custodians fulfill their responsibilities by working independently and as part of a team. This role is great for people who like to clean and provide customer service. Custodians thrive when they enjoy regular interactions with Fitness members and other YWCA staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Complete all duties listed on daily schedule and maintain daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
Perform janitorial duties which include, but are not limited to, wet and dust mopping, dusting, restroom cleaning and disinfecting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, carpet cleaning, meeting set up, pool cleaning, vacuuming, outdoor trash pickup, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning as requested or needed.
Clean up blood or other bodily fluids which could contain bloodborne pathogens.
Operate motorized equipment used for indoor cleaning and seasonal outdoor activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal.
Report all needed repairs to supervisor and make repairs as directed.
Ensure YWCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor or the manager on duty.
RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Building Engineer. The Custodian will interact with the Facilities Team, Fitness/Health and Wellness Team, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Team, other employees who work at YWCA Midtown, contractors, and Fitness members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Must be able and willing to develop:
Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment;
Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of the equipment used for cleaning;
Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use;
Willingness to learn and share new and better methods of cleaning.
The shift will include a combination of weekday evenings and weekend days.
Preferred
High School Diploma or GED
Previous custodial experience
WORK CONDITIONS:
Perform essential housekeeping to facility of equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
Ability to perform tasks outdoors in different climates;
Work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, paint, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
Work in conditions that can create dirt and dust.
Safely operate equipment that may include: auto scrubber, buffer, snow blower, sweeper, tractor, box/trash compactor, aerial lift, pressure washer, hand and power tools.
Move or lift materials and tools up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to respond to emergency/on-call situations.
Erect and stand on scaffolding, ladders, and platforms.
Work at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of times.
Ability to use email and text messaging.
