Summary: Grow a portfolio of residential real estate and consumer loans through superior service and relationship development. Consult with existing and prospective customers to meet lending needs. Identify opportunities for cross-sell of additional Bank products and services. Adhere to regulations and maintain up-to-date compliance understanding.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Originate residential real estate and consumer loans to meet bank and branch growth goals. 
  • Manage existing loan portfolio, including service and collections.
  • Drive loan growth through outbound prospecting and development of referral sources.
  • Work with consumer and mortgage applicants to obtain information for loan applications and answer questions about the loan process.
  • Present and clearly communicate loan options and terms to help borrowers make good financial decisions.
  • Obtain, compile, and analyze financial, credit, and collateral information to support loan decisions.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of mortgage loan programs, including portfolio products, FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines.
  • Leverage technology to enhance customer experience and enhance efficiency.
  • Approve loans within specified limits, and refer loan applications outside those limits for approval, based on the financial institution’s policies and procedures. Ability to present arguments for exception approval.
  • Negotiate loan terms, such as costs, loan period, loan repayment methods, and collateral specifications, and inform borrowers of loan commitments.
  • Review loan agreements to ensure that they are complete and accurate according to policy and regulations.
  • Work with clients to identify their financial goals and consult on ways of reaching those goals; ability to cross-sell other bank products and services.
  • Ability to consult with the customer to help make decisions that are right for the customer, acting as a financial advisor or credit counselor.
  • Assist in identifying competition, trends, unfulfilled borrower needs, and potential lending opportunities.
  • Understand and follow bank/department/government regulations, policies, and procedures, and participate in all compliance-related training.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or necessary.

 

Education & Experience:

  • NMLS Certification (may be obtained after hiring)
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four or more years of experience in a lending environment preferred.
  • Experience with mortgage lending and regulatory changes since 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, including experience with TRID (Truth-in-Lending, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act Integrated Disclosure) and all it encompasses.

  • Strong negotiation and conflict/issue resolution skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to changing applications and software.
