JOB SUMMARY

This full-time Program Coordinator designs, implements, and supervises daily operations for the Strong Fast Fit program (SFF).

   Strong Fast Fit is an afterschool program for youth ages 7 to 17 years old, designed to address and transform health disparities among Minneapolis youth through a cultural lens. Participants engage in activities related to wellness within a cultural heritage framework.

   A dynamic youth work leadership position, the Program Coordinator leads a team of Youth Counselors to deliver quality youth programming in a safe, respectful, and highly engaging environment. All program staff prioritize relationships with youth and families.

   The Program Coordinator seeks, develops, and sustains collaborative partnerships with several community-based organizations that align with program goals.

   This position, as member of the Girls and Youth Leadership Team, collaborates with Program Coordinators and Program Managers in order to achieve program-specific and departmental outcomes.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(1) Program Implementation and Coordination:

Identify and implement Strong Fast Fit programming, to align with YWCA Minneapolis mission and Girls & Youth outcomes.

Develop, lead, and oversee program design, structures, schedules, staffing, lessons, and activities – that reflect best practices in Youth Development to create and sustain an environment for youth that is safe, respectful, and highly engaging.

Facilitate youth and family engagement in all program offerings – especially through communication and relationships with the youth and their families.

Support departmental goals by participating in year-round programming (school year and summer), as well as special events and community outreach efforts.

Develop, lead, and oversee program promotion and recruitment initiatives.

(2) Supervision and Development of Staff:

Recruit, hire, train and coach, and supervise Youth Counselor staff.

Ensure staff have the proper training and professional development, information resources, and tools required to provide quality programming.

Model Youth Development best practices in all aspects of program design and implementation.

Assist staff in developing annual individual and program work plans and goals.

(3) Community Collaboration and Partnership:

Identify, develop, and sustain partnerships and collaborations with community-based organizations, so that programming fulfills SFF program objectives and directly responds to youth needs and preferences.

Develop and maintain interagency networks and linkages in support of programming.

 

(4) Administration:

Develop and monitor yearly program budget. Ensure accuracy and timely completion of all budget and expenditure documentation and reporting.

Manage the YWCA membership process for program participant families in collaboration with YWCA Health and Wellness leadership.

Oversee and implement data collection. Track and analyze participant data and evaluation responses, for continuous program improvement and for grant reporting.

Compile and document program impact and service levels as needed.

Manage accurate timesheet approvals for Youth Counselor staff, to ensure proper payroll.

(5) Professional Development:

Seek and participate in learning experiences that enhance programming efforts and supervision responsibilities, as well as meet training requirements set by Girls & Youth department.

 

HOURS

Work hours are Monday-Friday, generally 10:00am – 6:00pm or 11:00am – 7:00pm.

Most programming occurs weekdays during after-school hours. Summer programming is typically daytime. Special events may take place at other times.

Worksite: Primary work location is YWCA Midtown: 2121 East Lake Street, Minneapolis 55407.

RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Girls & Youth Program Manager, who reports to the Girls & Youth Director of Operations. The Program Coordinator will supervise Youth Counselor staff as direct reports. Critical relationships include community partners and the Girls & Youth Leadership Team.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:


• EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 year of program leadership. Minimum 1 year in a professional position
with supervisory responsibilities. Minimum two years of program facilitation with youth.
• EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Proven experience working with diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate effectively and work collaboratively with
youth, families and professionals, including leaders and staff of community-based organizations.
• Ability to set standards, create a positive environment, coach and motivate staff to reach
programming goals.
• Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent presentation, verbal and written skills. Proficient in Word and Excel.
• Commitment to conflict resolution and de-escalation that models respect for differences.
• Knowledge or awareness of health disparities among diverse populations in Minnesota as well
as principles and practices for wellness, and/or the ability to rapidly develop this knowledge and
apply it to programming.
• Preferred: knowledge of and/or experience with creating youth program curriculum, including
but not limited to “8 dimensions of wellness” framework.
• Preferred: Experience with writing reports and documentation of program outcomes.
• CPR and First Aid certified or willing to be certified within first 90 days.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORKING ENVIRONMENT
• Must have consistent reliable transportation to YWCA Midtown facility, and the ability to travel
to organizations and sites around the Minneapolis area.
• Position is highly mobile throughout the program spaces during programming.
• Ability to lift and carry supplies on a regular basis.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
