Position Requirements

Ideal candidate is enthusiastic, energetic, organized, and flexible; possesses excellent communication skills (written and verbal); a strong ability to coordinate diverse tasks; and sensitive to the needs of diverse populations of students.   Strong presentation, research, and problem solving skills; ability to prioritize, balance, and meet multiple goals/projects simultaneously; enjoys working in a flexible, often fast-paced, team-oriented environment; able to be fiscally responsible with budgets; and able to plan for and meet deadlines.  Must have excellent driving skills and two or fewer points on BMV record for insurance purposes.  PUCO required health examination and BMV record check are required.  Experience working with school age students is required. A college degree in education and a valid teaching license is preferred. 


OBJECTIVE:  Support COSI's mission by providing quality programs with a focus on science discovery and learning.  Work with educators, experts, and other COSI Team to develop, design, and implement student-centered and teacher centered programs; both on-site and through outreach.  Ensure that all learning materials meet audience needs, are developmentally appropriate, and address the various learning styles of the participants. 




  1. In conjunction with the Manager of Education Services and the Director of School and Community Partnerships, oversee educational out of school program scheduling and preparation.  Maintain a vision for this programming to confirm that it meets COSI’s mission, and values.
  2.  Work with the Outreach Education Team to implement each program in a developmentally appropriate manner focusing on discovery and creating a memorable educational experience for each participant. 
  3. Responsible for establishing communication with potential educational out of school partners in the community along with researching and finding growth opportunities.  In conjunction with the COSI Development team, stay current in regards to possible grant and funding opportunities that apply to this programming area. 
  4. In conjunction with the Director of School and Community Partnerships,  oversee financial budget and invoice preparation/implementation in order to meet financial performance standards. Responsible for purchasing needed supplies and equipment.  
  5. Work with the Director of Program Content Development, Manager of Exploration Programs and the Director of School and Community Partnerships to utilize current and past innovative programming in order to determine the needs, focus, and standards needed for the various participants.
  6. Oversee evaluation efforts for all educational out of school programming; seeking input from the Director of School and Community Partnerships. 
  7. Produce complete documentation of educational out of school programming, including reflections, challenges, and successes.  Use Evidence Based Practice to help make researched and practical decisions in order to continue to meet goals and understand needs and direction. 
  8. Work in conjunction with the Manager of Education Services to help prepare, assist, and lead Educator Professional Development opportunities for educators. 
  9. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  10. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
  11. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of School and Community Partnerships.
