This position will be supporting the Day Program at Holland Bloorview. The programs provides medical monitoring by qualified staff and allows clients to continue their in-hospital therapies, attend school and return home to their families in the evenings. Clients and families can use the program to transition home after a long hospital stay or as an alternative to staying at the hospital. Discover more details of the program here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation (including prevention), assessment, intervention and counselling to clients and families around communication
  • Works in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to inform integrated care plans
  • Uses appropriate standardized tests and outcome measures in clinical practice
  • Uses non-standard assessment tools/forms when appropriate
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other services, agencies, etc.
  • Incorporates goal setting in discussion with family/client
  • Adapts approach to changing needs of clients and families
  • Keeps family/client informed of progress and of any changes in plan
  • Adheres to Centre and professional charting guidelines (e.g., College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Ontario (CASLPO) Documentation Standards
  • Demonstrates familiarity with current literature, evidence-based practice, issues and trends of practice
  • Shares new knowledge and best practices with colleagues, students and other professionals within the organization, professional body and community
  • Actively engages in clinical supervision of students during their clinical placements in Speech-Language Pathology and Communicative Disorders Assistant programs
  • Utilize the teaching/learning process to provide education, both formal and informal, to clients/families, colleagues, students, and other professionals within the organization and the community
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to refine clinical practice, support the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment, and advance a culture of equitable and efficient service for clients and families through work and daily practices
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Previous pediatric clinical related experience preferred
  • Experience with providing assessment, consultation and therapy for pediatric Spina Bifida, neuromuscular disorders and/or inpatient rehab preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Demonstrates flexibility and co-operation in dealing with change
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team
