Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

POSITION TITLE: Director of Student Activities
SUPERVISED BY: Assistant Principal for Student Life
CALENDAR: 10 months (paid over 12 months)
FLSA STATUS: Full-time, exempt
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 2025
COMPENSATION: $80,000 - $115,000

Position Summary
The Director of Student Activities, with the support of the Associate Director of Student Activities, is responsible for various events and programs on campus that support school spirit, student leadership, and student inclusion and belonging. The Director of Student Activities supervises and provides oversight to students involved in all aspects of Student Activities at SHC both on campus and off campus school sponsored events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian/Vincentian educator;

  • Support SHC’s mission, philosophy and ISOs;

  • Strengthen the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools through their formational programs

  • Collaborate with other co curricular programs: Athletics, Campus Ministry, Visual & Performing Arts;

  • Serves on the Cocurricular Council;

  • Engage in professional development, especially our four-year New Faculty Professional Development and Support Program, becoming a reflective and growth-minded practitioner who integrates best and next teaching practices rooted in the SHC mission;

  • Actively participate in SHC’s strategic initiatives to strengthen meaningful diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices, especially strategies to support equitable learning, culturally responsive teaching, social emotional learning, and universal design for learning;

  • Lead and oversee student council and clubs sponsored by Student Activities;

  • Serves as a primary liaison between the school and Lifetouch photography;

  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Student Activities, Class Moderators, and Club Moderators.

Event Planning and Coordination

  • Plan and execute major school events with student council like homecoming week, dances and proms, rallies, spirit weeks, Frosh Orientation and Grad Night;

  • Coordinate events like the activity fair, lunchtime activities, and other spirit/service activities

  • Manage event logistics including venue booking, contract negotiation, ticketing, decorations, promotion, and security.

Club Management

  • Oversee the approval and operation of all student clubs;

  • In collaboration with the Club Facilitator, coordinate with club moderators about activities, collaboration times, and budget.

Student Government Support

  • Serves as advisor/moderator, along with Associate Director of Student Activities, for student council;

  • Facilitates student government meetings;

  • Oversee two election/appointment cycles;

  • Work collaboratively with Student Council (SBO, Senior, Junior, Sophomore, and Freshman Councils) to plan and execute their ideas.

Student Leadership Development

  • Encourage student participation in school activities and promote a positive school culture;

  • Identify and cultivate student leadership by serving as a role model and mentor;

  • Plan and facilitate two leadership workshops for new and returning student council members;

  • Attend Lasallian District Student Formation Summer Program(s).

Budget Management

  • Develop and manage the bud/gets for student activities, allocating funds for all activities;

  • Track expenditures and ensure responsible use of allocated funds;

  • Works collaboratively with Finance and Business Operations departments to develop Student Activities budgets.

Communication and Promotion

  • Create and maintain a student activities calendar that coordinates with schoolwide calendar;

  • Communicate upcoming events to students, staff and parents through announcements, Schoology educational platform, and appropriate social media;

  • Provide oversight for all Student Activities social media accounts.

Supervision:
Associate Director of Student Activities, Class and Club Moderators.

 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree;

  • Experience working with high school students;

  • Must be available to work some weekends and evening events;

  • Must be available to work some summer dates as part of overall 10 month expectation;

  • Ability to work collaboratively to promote student learning & engagement.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree;

  • Experience as a Program Director;

  • Experience in a Catholic high school setting;

  • Experience as a classroom teacher.
