Job Summary:

The Supervisor of Orderlies performs a variety of functions in a health institution relating to the support care of patients and supervises employees engaged in general custodial duties in areas of the hospital or clinic. Work involves giving instructions to subordinates and monitoring their work activities. The incumbent works with some independence but general supervision is received from a General Supervisor of Medical Orderlies or Administrative Superior.

The Authority reserves the right to the assign the officer to any Facility under its management.

Key Functions:

  • Supports and reviews work of subordinate staff and gives instructions where necessary to ensure that work is satisfactorily performed.
  • Supervises the work of subordinates engaged in sanitization of equipment and care areas.
  • Assists in the preparation of duty rosters (shift log reports) and keeps record of subordinate daily attendance.
  • Issues and keeps record of cleaning materials and equipment utilized by subordinate staff.
  • Investigates and reports on complaints pertaining to subordinate staff.
  • Participates in a variety of routine functions incidental to the care of patients.
  • Assess the training needs of subordinated and makes recommendations to endure continuity of service.
  • Ensures that the services provided are customer focused.
  • Assists the General Supervisor of Medical Orderlies to implement strategies which involves the management of subordinates.
  • Assess and appraises the performance of subordinate staff.
  • Plans and coordinates the activities of subordinate staff.
  • Performs related duties as may be required.
 
Position Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

  • Five (5) O’ Level GCE/CXC subjects.
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management.
  • At least eight (8) years’ experience in the support care of patients that may have been gained as a Medical Orderly.
  • Training in First Aid/PHTLS.
  • Certificate in Computer Literacy.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
