Residential Counselor - Overnight Shift

Volunteers of America-MN is dedicated to helping people in need. Our Omegon facility, located in Minnetonka, provides chemical dependency and psychiatric residential treatment for adolescents ages 12 to 17. This is one of the few children’s programs in the state that can treat patients with dual diagnosis.

A Residential Counselor participates as a critical member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals and provides direct services to teens with chemical dependency and psychiatric needs. This position is responsible for working directly with clients to provide for their care, welfare, safety, and protection as they take their journey to undergo treatment in accordance with the mission’s philosophy and program goals. Residential Counselor’s implement appropriate treatment plans and goals that are suitable to the age and functionality of the individual as well as document a client’s progress throughout their stay.

This is an entry-level position that provides opportunities for professional development in the areas of applied behavior analysis, human services and working with children with mental health and chemical dependency needs. This is a fulltime position working the overnight shift. Starting pay is $12.00 per hour. Omegon is located near public transportation.

Position Requirements

For consideration you must have:

  • High School Diploma/GED; BA/BS in Social Service field is preferred  
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record (final candidates will be required to submit to a criminal background check, DHS study and motor vehicle record check)


Other Skills: 

  • Demonstrated maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences in children and families served
  • Ability to handle job-related matters in a professional, diplomatic, and confidential manner
  • Understanding of crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability and judgment to work independently
  • This position does involve working weekends
