Opportunity Finance Network (OFN) seeks to fill the role of Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategic Communications. The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategic Communications co-creates and executes comprehensive communications strategies that elevate OFN's mission, engage stakeholders, and strengthen the visibility and impact of the community development finance industry (CDFI). Working collaboratively across the organization, the SVP, Strategic Communications will align communications strategies with OFN's overall objectives and ensure consistent messaging across all OFN channels and externally-facing OFN activities. This role includes leadership over media relations, brand reputation, messaging, and narrative development and oversees OFN's content calendar. The SVP will lead a high-performing team that provides strategic direction to advance OFN's external communications and thought leadership.

This position is based in Washington, D.C. All staff currently work a hybrid schedule.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee development and execution of OFN's editorial and content calendar to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and effective storytelling.
  • Drive data-driven storytelling, applying a journalistic approach to find stories and ensure that impact data is woven into outgoing communication.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing communications team, fostering an environment of creativity, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Serve as a primary spokesperson for OFN, representing the organization at public events, media interviews, and key industry forums.
  • Implement an internal communications strategy that fosters a culture of transparency, inclusivity, and open dialogue.
  • Guide media relations strategies, identifying and cultivating relationships with key reporters and media outlets to amplify OFN's messages and the broader impact of the CDFI industry.
  • Manage crisis communications as needed, ensuring the organization's messaging is responsive, transparent, and aligned with its values.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for external visibility, including media interviews, op-eds, and speaking engagements, to showcase OFN's thought leadership.
  • Craft and implement proactive outreach strategies to reach external opinion leader and influencer audiences.
  • Utilize analytics and digital tools to assess the effectiveness of communications efforts and refine strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Leverage OFN's events, especially OFN's annual conference, to amplify the CDFI industry's positive image with priority audiences.
  • Prepare OFN CEO and other spokespeople for media interviews and speaking engagements.
  • Manage outside PR and communications contractors as required.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 10+ years of direct work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 10+ years professional experience in Public Relations or Communication required.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity desired.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in community/economic development, community organizing, social justice advocacy or public policy advocacy preferred.
  • Experience working at CDFIs or consulting in the CDFI sector preferred.
  • Must possess a strong passion for, understanding of, and commitment to OFN’s mission, vision, and values. In addition, be a fearless advocate, who is confident and resilient in OFN’s fight to drive capital into low-income communities.
  • A collaborative team player who possesses the interpersonal skills to work across all levels of the organization both internally and externally, humility, and a willingness to learn in all areas of our work. Be a strong team contributor, effective and comfortable in leading as well as supporting roles within teams.

FLSA Status: Exempt

The full salary range for SVP leveled employees is $135,600 to $229,300.

Salaries paid at Opportunity Finance Network will vary based on factors that may include skills, education, location, experience, and performance. The salary range for this position is represented by the low and high end of the range for the position level.
