Starting Pay: $19.2510 Hourly ($40,042)
After 1st Year: $22.2790 Hourly ($46,340)
After 2nd Year: $22.8195 Hourly ($47,465)
After 3rd Year: $23.3828 Hourly ($48,636)
After 4th Year: $23.9723 Hourly ($49,862)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One (1) year of clerical experience -AND- the ability to type 30 net w.p.m.;

-OR-

Associate degree in an area providing secretarial skills -AND- six (6) months’ clerical experience -AND- the ability to type 30 net w.p.m.

JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of tasks in the Office of the Friend of the Court, including providing the public with information and resources regarding the court system; maintaining records within the State computer system; requires the use of courtesy, tact, an eye for detail, cashiering and computer skills; expected to exercise a certain degree of independent judgment and problem solving in completion of their duties; work is generally reviewed upon completion; may be assigned to work in the Legal Records Division and/or may be deputized to make clerical actions; work will predominantly be performed at the Friend of the Court.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Engages with the public via phone, mail, online and in-person, assisting with completion of forms, answering case specific and general questions and providing court information;
  • Receives legal documents, reviews and maintains records per Michigan law and Friend of the Court policy;
  • Assists in preparing legal documents for the court including orders, notices, recommendations and warrants;
  • Communicates available Friend of the Court services and other community resources;
  • Organizes, files, scans and indexes case records;
  • Assists in reviewing financial detail reports and making necessary corrections per court records;
  • Assists in developing and improving services to families receiving Friend of the Court services;
  • Utilizes various online resources to locate relevant information for case processing;
  • Receives and receipts cash and non-cash payments;
  • Utilizes computers for data input, retrieval, analysis and processing.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment and of business mathematics and English.
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and respectfully in a complex, multicultural work environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to operate personal computer and related software.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to engage with the public with a positive, welcoming, courteous and positive attitude.

  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to process cash and non-cash receipting.
  • Ability to use appropriate judgment and tact when dealing with clients or other County employees.
