The Medical Laboratory Assistant is required to assist the MLT's in the performance of their job function.
The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.

Assists in receiving, sorting of all laboratory supplies.

Separates/aliquots all samples.

Centrifuge all laboratory samples e.g. blood, urine etc.

Set-up, operate and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus e.g. centrifuges, autoclaves and other sterilizing equipment

Prepares and sterilizes all media

Transports samples within the laboratory

Makes listings of available blood, reagents and distributes to clinical areas.

Assists in the filing blocks and slides.

Stores and disposes of gross samples accordingly.

Assists in the verbal communication with clinicians.

Assists in the preparation of all strains, reagents and chemical solutions.

Washes glassware and equipment e.g. measuring cylinders, flasks, pipettes and tubes.

Sterilization and disinfection of laboratory counter-tops and laboratory surfaces.

In compliance with the Safety Guidelines and Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures, ensures preparation of biohazard waste and blood-borne pathogens for disposal.

Assists the Medical Laboratory Technologists in the performance of their duties.

Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies.

Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.

Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by the Authority.
