Job Summary:

The Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager with the co-ordinating of nursing/ patient care delivery services.

The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.

The core functions include but not limited to the following:

  • Assists in the implementation of a nursing operational plan.
  • Takes and gives over the institution’s nursing and patient care delivery services.
  • Collaborates with Patient Care Co-ordinators to ensure adequate staffing of nursing department and resolve patient care issues.
  • Reports to Nurse Manager on the nursing and patient care status of the institution.
  • Arranges visits to nursing departments on matters of critical/rewarding nature.
  • Ensures nursing coverage in the event of patient care needs/absence of nursing personnel.
  • Assists in the collaboration with Heads of Allied Health Services /Medical Departments on matters related to nursing/patient care.
  • Assists Nurse Manager in the adherence of the standards, policies and procedures pertinent to nursing/patient care delivery.
  • Collaborates with Patient Care Co-ordinators in the provision of continuing education.
  • Maintains staff morale and the promotion of good working relationships.
  • Provides supervision and support to all staff, thereby assisting in their professional growth and development.
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are strictly adhered to by all members of staff and initiate disciplinary procedures when necessary.
  • Ensures that nursing students receive their practical training.
  • Ensures that an annual vacation plan is effectively developed.
  • Monitors the implementation of the annual vacation plan.
  • Receives daily reports per shift from Patient Care Co-ordinators or Assistants.
  • Prepares and submits daily reports to the Nurse Manager.
  • Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies.
  • Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.
  • Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by the Authority.
     
 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications, Training and Experience:

  • A first degree in Nursing.
  • A Diploma or Certificate in Nursing Management would be an asset.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years continuous nursing experience three (3) of which must be at managerial/supervisory level.
  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago.
  • Member of a professional body will be an asset.
