Description

The Clinical Toxicology Technologist prepares patient samples of urine and oral fluid for analysis via LC-MS/MS and reviews chromatographic data based on established procedures. Run and prepare monthly, Quarterly and Bi-yearly QA/QC documentation. Additionally, they engage in problem-solving, quality assurance, corrective actions, and ongoing education in clinical laboratory practices. This position reports directly to the Clinical Toxicology Manager.

Routine Testing and Quality Control:

  • Routine Testing: Monitor and conduct regular tests as per laboratory procedures.
  • Quality Control: Performing quality control measures to ensure test accuracy.
  • Calibration: Regularly calibrating laboratory instruments to maintain precision.

Preparation and Management of Solutions:

  • Stock Solutions: Monitor and prepare stock solutions used in various tests.
  • Quality Controls (QCs) and Calibrators: Creating QCs and calibrators to ensure test accuracy.

Instrument and Equipment Management:

  • Troubleshooting: Monitor, Identifying and resolving issues with laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Maintenance: Performing regular maintenance tasks to prevent equipment malfunctions.

Toxicology Procedures:

  • Policy Compliance: Perform toxicology procedures following the laboratory's approved policies and procedures.

Technical Competency:

  • Proficient in analyzing calibration, quality control (QC), and patient data. Specialized in the examination of chromatogram data, particularly for Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

Instrumentation and Equipment:

  • Operation and Maintenance: Operate, monitor, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment following established operating procedures.
  • Equipment Checks: Perform necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality controls.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot instrumentation and equipment-related issues as they occur.

Proficiency Testing:

  • Participation: Participate in the Proficiency Testing Program as assigned.
Inventory Management Responsibilities
• Receiving and organizing new shipments: Accept deliveries and arrange new lab supplies.
• Inventory tracking and restocking: Monitor and replenish high-use items weekly and monthly to ensure the lab remains well-stocked.
• Placing orders via Quartzy
Other Duties:
• Accessioning samples
• Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as required.

Pay Range: $29.00 - $34.00/hour

 
Position Requirements

Bachelor's in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Toxicology, or other closely related field

NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) or Toxicology Restricted License

5+ years pertinent laboratory experience

Experience with the following technologies is preferred:

  • LCMS/MS
  • Chemistry analyzers
  • Liquid-Liquid extraction
  • Solid phase extraction
