Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:  To create dynamic and effective multimedia and online content for use within the web and other online communications, including but not limited to graphic design, programming, testing, and content optimization.  This role also assists the Web team as needed with website maintenance and other tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the organization’s primary multimedia designer, providing graphic design and animation for all web and online communications, including web page layouts, web page elements (e.g., headers, images), e-mail templates, in-house display ads, and other special projects, as assigned (e.g., online annual report).
     
  • Execute the weekly e-newsletter (i.e., Keeping You e-Posted), including overall layout, graphic design, testing and delivery.

 

  • Manage the web site’s content optimization by working with content writers to maximize search engine optimization and user experience.  Use web analytics to track progress and to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

 

  • Develop web design elements that improve the user experience and enhance the visual impact of all online communications.
     
  • Compile monthly web and online communications metrics with recommendations to share with internal stakeholders to improve accessibility, usability, and effectiveness.
     
  • Assist organization-wide content editors and/or providers, including news and media relations, with content posting, testing, and optimization.
     
  • Provide on-site web support for special events, as needed, including the bi-annual General Synod.
     
  • Develop and maintain professional and courteous relationships with staff, directors, partners and other constituents; serve as a positive role model by exemplifying values which are consistent with the United Church of Christ.
     
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A college degree in computer technology, multimedia design, or a related field or equivalent experience, or a combination of academic study and experience.
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of web construction, software and design principles and standards (HTML, CSS, XML, etc).
  • Advanced graphic design abilities, with specific understanding of online communication and imagery, including animation, load-times, and resolution.
  • An understanding on web and e-communications metrics and continuous improvement action plans.
  • Above-average understanding of search engine optimization, content management, and copywriting for online communications.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and web management.
  • An understanding of the polity and structure of the United Church of Christ.
  • Demonstrated skills working with a richly diverse staff and commitment to diversity in the workplace.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
