HSE Manager - Well Servicing (Lacombe, AB, CAN)

  • Oversee safety responsibilities and provide leadership, direction and advice on safety & loss control, including prevention measures
  • Facilitate training & development programs to support field & operations personnel to ensure rigs run safely and efficiently with minimal downtime, optimizing the service to customers
  • Responsible for taking rig calls, not limited to safety related issues, to support operations
  • Assist Operations Mangers, Field Superintendents, Rig Managers, and Drillers on supervision and leadership aspects of their jobs pertaining to safe performance, employee training, reducing employee turnover, assisting in hazard assessments, and safety meetings
  • Provide guidance to the safety team as well as conduct performance evaluations of individuals in the safety team
  • Support the Field Superintendents, Rig Managers, and Drillers in bi-annual performance evaluations on their employees, as well as take part in disciplinary matters
  • Schedule rigs visits, as agreed upon with the General Manager and the safety department.  During rig visits, evaluate whether all of the rig personnel are following established safety and operations procedures, hold documented and meaningful safety meetings, file hazard assessments, and provide guidance to help complete these tasks
  • Conduct unscheduled rig visits as needed for safety issues, personnel difficulties, difficult hole conditions, equipment problems, or concerns raised by the customer
  • Review and follow-up all recordable injuries and oversee Safety Alert process as well
  • Organize the monthly management meetings
  • Rotate safety on call for weekends with the HSE Team Leads and HSE Superintendent(s) to provide guidance in field operations after hours
  • Oversee the claims management of injured workers & WCB Reporting
  • Coordinate with the provincial WCB & Workplace Health and Safety organizations, collect & Assess WCB Experience Ratings, as well as update Canadian HSE Registry
  • Oversee the coordination of safety visibility in the field with the HSE Team Leads
  • Analyze and advise on safety statistical data to develop plans to reduce risk and injury to employees
  • Guide and advise the management team in order to comply with and exceed Industry & Regulatory standards, and to maintain a C.O.R.
  • Participate and represent Savanna on the Health & Safety Committees of the CAODC and PSAC Industry Associations; report to the CAODC on behalf of Savanna
  • Maintain continuous learning and education as a safety professional.

The successful candidate will bring the following Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Related post-secondary diploma
  • 4-6 years minimum safety experience;
  • 4 years minimum rig experience (Derrickhand or above positions worked)
  • Experience in incident investigation is a must
  • Working knowledge of OH&S, EUB, WCB Regulations, and IRPs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective organization and time management skills

  • Mediation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to remain open-minded and objective
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong computer and administration skills
