Current projects include multimodal corridor planning and design, planning policy and guidance, leading-edge transportation safety planning and implementation, equity analysis, environmental documentation, grant applications, and more.

About the Role

Alliant is known for high quality community and stakeholder engagement that gets results. With our growing practice, we are seeking to add an Engagement Specialist based in our dynamic downtown Minneapolis office.

This person in this role will be responsible for leading and implementing community and stakeholder engagement projects and activities at Alliant, with support from our transportation planning and marketing staff. The successful candidate will work closely with Alliant project managers, planners, and engineers across the company and with our clients. This position reports to the Director of Transportation Planning.

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with project staff, lead the planning and execution of a wide range of in-person and online community and stakeholder engagement activities. Specific duties and activities may include:

  • Provide engagement leadership, strategy, and support to Alliant project managers and clients
  • Work with project teams to understand project decision needs and milestones and incorporate them into engagement strategies and activities
  • Prepare and implement project engagement plans
  • Plan, lead and/or facilitate a range of meeting types and events including public open houses, pop-up meetings, focus groups, and agency committee meetings
  • Prepare materials to support engagement activities
  • Devise strategies and lead preparation of materials for online engagement via websites and online engagement platforms
  • Work with graphic designers to prepare graphics to support engagement activities that clearly communicate project technical information to general audiences, including display boards, handouts, surveys, social media posts, etc.
  • Prepare engagement scopes of work and budgets to support marketing proposals to win new work
  • Identify and track engagement components of upcoming project opportunities and help position Alliant with clients
  • Delegate activities to other staff as appropriate
  • Opportunity to support transportation planning activities as needed
  • Participate externally with relevant professional organizations

Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years experience in community and stakeholder engagement, preferably with leadership responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Communications, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, etc.) or equivalent experience
  • Experience preparing written and graphical materials that translate complex technical information for general audiences
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing community and stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Skill and experience successfully engaging with community members in challenging contexts or around disagreements
  • Experience engaging nontraditional, underserved or similar stakeholders and knowledge of appropriate and effective techniques
  • Excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with staff across multiple disciplines and organizational functions
  • Strong interpersonal and client relationship skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency with one or more online engagement platforms
  • Experience with or knowledge of transportation planning and engineering or similar fields
  • Knowledge of or involvement with relevant professional organizations

The base salary for this position is expected to be in the range of $80,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
