Position Commercial Development Program Manager  
Description

Position purpose:

The Commercial Development Program Manager (CDP Manager) is accountable for recruiting, hiring, on-boarding and developing the company’s next generation of salespeople.

Position authority:

  • Determine both Business Team and regional/territory alignment for colleagues in the program.
  • Set training curriculum, for both conventional sales skills and the products/chemistries that we promote.
  • Determine/set business travel for colleagues in the program.
  • Set both office and field etiquette expectations, most notably working hours.
  • Determine appropriate investments to support the position’s Purpose.
  • Delegate Business Team members to support the position’s Purpose (e.g., set interview panels, direct college/university speaking engagements).
  • Align appropriate internal support teams for colleagues in the program.
  • Evaluate/determine company’s corporate partnership strategy with colleges/universities.
  • Make adjustments to the entire process, from recruiting to training, as deemed necessary.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creating and implementing Commercial Development Program (CDP)
  • Brainstorm, plan, and support recruiting events to engage CDP candidates throughout the year.
  • Work with marketing and recruiting to increase awareness for CDP via various social media platforms.
  • Coordinate and participate in recruiting events including career fairs, tabling events, speaking engagements, and other campus events to promote Palmer Holland.
  • Establish CDP functional goals and objectives in alignment with broader commercial goals.
  • Determine salesperson readiness for transition into Account Manager role in partnership with business team.
  • Manage, motivate, and engage with direct reports.
  • Deliver training and development activities as needed.

Position Requirements

Education: Four-year degree in Business Management or related field required

Experience: Minimum of ten years’ experience in Sales/Sales Management, or equivalent, required

Travel: 15%-25% domestic travel required

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Conventional sales skills (i.e., questioning, opportunity advancement, negotiating, social etiquette)
  • Teaching, coaching and mentoring
  • Confidence building in young adults
  • Time management
  • Intermediate level of expertise in MS Office and Contact Management Software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills re: sales data analyses, report reviews, etc.

 

Competencies:

  • Keen knowledge of both sales process and conventional sales skill set
  • Versed in sales profiles and consequently individual learning styles
  • Natural abilities to connect with people
  • Comfortable with providing, seeking and receiving feedback
  • Knowledge of the chemistries that we promote and the end-use markets that we serve
  • Base understanding of both specialty chemical and food ingredient formulation work
  • Base knowledge of specialty chemical/food ingredient distribution competitive landscape
  • Working knowledge of ideal principal/distributor relationships in specialty chemicals/food ingredients

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Satisfactory motor skills relevant to position
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift twenty-five pounds
