Position Requirements

Ideal candidates are enthusiastic; possess basic leadership potential, including integrity, intelligence, empathy, and energy; and are able to work amidst "organized chaos."  Ability to work with large groups of active youth and their adult leaders; sensitivity to needs; and willingness to respond to situations arising with participants, Team Members, leaders, and others, in order to make each Overnight event a success essential. Capability of maintaining a high level of enthusiasm with very little sleep is a must.  Recent experience as a member of the COSI Camp-In, Camp COSI, and/or COSI Workshops Team required.


OBJECTIVE:  Enhance the Guest experience by managing a safe and efficient overnight environment for COSI Overnight Guests.  Duties include, but are not limited to: ensuring a safe, clean, comfortable environment for participants to sleep; monitoring sleeping participants; and solving problems as they arise to ensure leaders and participants are given the opportunity to rest.



  1. Ensure the safety and well-being of overnight program participants by staffing the Guest Services desk from lights-out to wake-up and doing periodic patrols of the building during overnight programs.
  2. Attend mandatory orientation/training meetings.
  3. Provide a personal experience for campers through individual interaction with them, consistent with the goals of the program.
  4. Encourage group interaction, processing of the earlier COSI experience, generation of anticipation for the next day's activities, etc., which enhance the overall experience of the campers.
  5. Prepare COSI for arrival of campers, facilitate the sleep-preparation process by campers, and return the facility to normal condition in the morning; using equipment and supplies in the manner specified by the Manager of Exploration Programs and the Assistant Manager of Exploration Programs.
  6. Ensure the delivery and provision of meals and snacks for campers as needed.
  7. Facilitate activities and movies as needed.
  8. Promote a safe environment by supporting all established rules and regulations – both COSI's and those of the city – for campers, leaders, and Team.
  9. Respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations, maintaining a calm and approachable demeanor at all times.
  10. Participate in Team functions as a member of the Public & Member Programs Team.
  11. Maintain a positive attitude and high level of enthusiasm for the program.
  12. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  13. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
  14. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Exploration Programs, the Faculty Leader for Hiring & Scheduling, and/or the other senior members of the Public & Member Programs Team.
