Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented and have a good appreciation for the Guest experience.  They will possess an inventive spirit; initiative to work without direct supervision; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously; responsibility for timely completion of assigned tasks; and the ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public. 


They must have a good working knowledge of (and the ability to troubleshoot) mechanical, computer, electronic, electrical, and audio/visual systems.  They should be skilled in the use of a wide variety of hand and power tools; able to lift and move heavy objects; walk in excess of 3 miles per day; and be able to work from lifts, ladders and high platforms. The ability to read basic blue prints, floor plans and wiring diagrams is preferred.  Schooling (or experience) in an electronics, mechanical, audio/visual, or computer related technology field is preferred; however there are many job related skills that would be learned once employed.


OBJECTIVE:  Assist in the operation and maintenance of the Christie Digital Extreme Screen Theater projection system to ensure an efficient, professional, and reliable operation of theater’s projection and sound equipment.  Additionally, this position will assist in maintaining, troubleshooting, programming and repairing the building lighting system and all respective components and any other audio-visual needs throughout the building.  Perform electronic and mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance procedures on existing and future exhibits. 



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

  1. Operate digital theater projectors, sound system, and all ancillary equipment.
  2. Prepare movies and presentations for scheduled showings.
  3. Assist in performing routine maintenance and completion of a preventive maintenance schedule on projectors, audio equipment, support systems and building lighting system.
  4. Maintenance of museum exhibits including various electronic, mechanical, and audio/visual devices.
  5. Major exhibit repair, modification, and retrofitting.  These tasks often involve coordination with sub-contractors, vendors, and COSI Designers & Engineers.
  6. Supervise daily operations of the exhibit floor by overseeing the “immediate concerns” walkie-talkie and proactively prioritizing reported challenges.
  7. Routine cleaning and completion of a preventive maintenance schedule.
  8. Support the Events and Programs divisions, as well as, those guests who have reserved the use of our facilities with audio/visual needs and otherwise.
  9. Assist with the installation and strike of traveling and permanent exhibitions at COSI.
  10. Maintain, reprogram, troubleshoot and repair of the building lighting system and all respective components.
  11. Troubleshoot, repair and/or replace defective lights, which may include wiring, bulb and/or ballast replacement, and/or complete fixture replacement.
  12. Keep abreast of technology and new developments related to the exhibit and projection fields.
  13. Keep shop and personal workspace neat, clean, organized, and well supplied.
  14. Maintain records and write reports as required.
  15. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
  16. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude and performance.
  17. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in guest services by assuring guest safety, using courtesy to drive each guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the  Director of Exhibit Operations.
