Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, creative and experienced Behaviour Technician to join the Extensive Needs Service, a new program for individuals up to the age of 18, whose needs cannot be met in a single service stream and who require an integrated approach across Mental, Behavioural and Developmental Health. While this is primarily a clinical role, there will be opportunity to work with other members of an interprofessional team to develop and implement the Behavioural Technician role based on best practices and evidence. Working closely with a supervising Behaviour Analysist, the Behavioural Technician will provide trauma-informed and compassionate behavioural intervention to children, youth and families with extensive needs such as co-occurring medical, physical and developmental complexities and/or social vulnerabilities. To promote an equitable and accessible treatment model for clients and their families, services will be provided in a variety of locations including Holland Bloorview main campus, satellite clinics across the GTA and the client’s home and/or school. Travel between sites may be required in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build strong rapport with clients and families to understand their values and goals of behaviour treatment
  • Collaborates with the Behaviour Analyst to ensure all components of the behavioural service focus on safety, client and family dignity, and rapport building
  • Assists Behaviour Analyst in assessment of interfering behaviour including conducting assessments, collecting data, and discussing assessment procedures with parents
  • Implements skill-based treatment plans developed by the Behaviour Analyst to support the reduction of interfering behaviour by teaching new skills
  • Collects and maintains data
  • Provides regular updates to the Behaviour Analyst on treatment progress
  • Receives and seeks ongoing clinical supervision from the Behaviour Analyst to ensure treatment fidelity and to amend treatment plans and goals as necessary
  • Responsive to the changing needs of clients and families and demonstrates flexibility to adapt treatment goals and approach as necessary in collaboration with the Behaviour Analyst
  • Partners with families to provide education and coaching to implement strategies and generalize skills at home and across the community
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices

Position Requirements:

  • College diploma or undergraduate degree in a field related to behavioural science, psychology, child and youth work, or social services
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis principles and a minimum of two years’ experience implementing them considered a strong asset
  • Experience supporting children and youth with neurodevelopmental conditions, acquired brain injury, and/or mental health conditions
  • Experience providing services to children and youth with varying abilities who engage in severe interfering behaviours including aggression, self-injury, property destruction, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience providing parent training and coaching
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and communicate effectively with clients, families, Behaviour Analyst, and members of the interprofessional team
  • Strong initiative skills, demonstrated through the ability to make quick decisions, resolve conflict, and adapt to changing work environments
