WORK OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, position is responsible for designing and managing technologies including wired/wireless networking infrastructure and firewalls, both physical and virtual machines, and Storage Area Networks (SANs), focusing on the overall security, performance, and reliability of the City’s internal and external network infrastructure and systems.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluates, designs, installs, maintains, and coordinates the use of the City’s network systems within scope, budget, specifications and resources.
  • Manages, monitors, and troubleshoots network performance, diagnoses performance problems, and undertakes tuning activities to ensure network performance meets City requirements.
  • Performs in-depth and routine research, analysis and problem diagnosis, consults with internal and external technical staff as necessary, and repairs or replaces equipment as needed.
  • Coordinates and implements network security measures, firmware upgrades, and software updates to protect the City’s hardware, data, and software.
  • Creates and maintains documentation relating to network assets, configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Assists with installation, configuration, maintenance, and support for VMWare VSphere environment.
  • Assists with the system operation and administration of Local Area Network servers, SANs, and other systems.
  • Assists in configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting Broadwoks IP telephone systems and other communication systems.
  • Responsible for responding to and resolving network and systems related incidents in a timely manner.
  • Recommends technology changes/brand standards by staying current in the industry.
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in a network administration position, with a Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or appropriate discipline preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Exceptional knowledge of IT infrastructure technologies, processes, methodologies, and best practices, which include networking, cabling, servers, storage, telephony, and virtualization.
  • Exceptional, hands-on experience and knowledge in designing, architecture, planning and maintaining complex network infrastructure.
  • Strong, hands-on experience configuring Cisco Routers, Switches, and VLANs and supporting VPN technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting VMWare and various SAN technologies/providers; Windows Servers, DNS, Active Directory; Palo Alto Firewalls; and implementing and supporting Meraki Wireless networks
  • Prefer knowledge and experience with Microsoft 365, SD-WAN.
  • CCNA/CCNA Security/or CCNP, and ITIL Foundation highly preferred.
  • Ability to perform incident support and troubleshooting for network-related, software, and hardware issues.
  • Practical experience with PC & server hardware and software and current desktop environments and configurations.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid state of Florida Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • Availability for occasional off-hours or weekend tasks.
  • The employee in this position must be able to secure and maintain a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Clearance to include approval for controlled access to protected information.

 

Exceptions to the minimum qualifications must be reviewed by the Human Resources Director and approved by the City Manager prior to job offer.

  • Ability to manage tasks independently with minimal supervision and direction, be self-motivated, and assume ownership and accountability for responsibilities
  • Excellent critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, teach, mentor and collaborate with other staff.
  • Ability to document complex processes and scenarios clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, work instructions, and reference guides.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in an office environment with typical office hazards and low to moderate noise levels.
  • Use of sensory skills to effectively communicate with other employees and the public through both personal and phone contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various office-related equipment, including, but not limited to telephone, computer, calculator, copier and fax machine.
  • Sufficient mobility to respond to calls at all supported locations and move heavy computer equipment and peripherals unassisted when necessary, of up to 75 lbs.
  • Sufficient mobility to perform duties in small spaces involving crouching, stooping, kneeling and the physical ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and finer dexterity.
  • Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, lifting of light and moderately heavy objects.
