GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION

In coordination with the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President — Sales & Marketing will lead the Cornerstone Fund’s outreach efforts to individuals, Local Churches, Associations, Conferences and other related entities across the UCC. All of these efforts are governed by our overall fiduciary responsibility to protect the investments entrusted to the Fund.  

The Cornerstone Fund encourages and supports the founding, development, nurture, and renewal of Local Churches of the United Church of Christ as they seek to do God’s work in the world. As an affiliated ministry of the UCC, we support the pilgrimage and vision of the denomination as a multiracial, multicultural, open and affirming church, accessible to all, as it is lived out in and through the Local Church.  We also serve as a resource to constituents, partners, staff colleagues and others — providing special knowledge, understanding and judgment with respect to the Cornerstone Fund program; and developing and sustaining relationships and linkages with constituency and mission partners.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as Business Development Officer for Investments and Loans, securing investments into the Cornerstone Fund from individuals, Local Churches, Associations, Conferences and related entities; and soliciting loans from qualified borrowers across the UCC.

  • Serve as Business Development Officer for Investments and Loans, securing investments into the Cornerstone Fund from individuals, Local Churches, Associations, Conferences and related entities; and soliciting loans from qualified borrowers across the UCC.
  • Serve as Loan Officer, preparing and underwriting loan applications for submission to and approval by the President/CEO of the Cornerstone Fund and the appropriate loan committees.
  • Attend Conference, Association and Local Church meetings in order to advance the business development efforts of the Cornerstone Fund. As appropriate, meet with UCC churches and organizations considering Cornerstone Fund loans.
  • Train, coach, counsel, and supervise Mission Interpreters.
  • Work with the President and CFO/COO in establishing a realistic Business Plan with measurable business development goals for investments and loans.
  • Work with the President and the external marketing consultant to establish marketing strategies that support the Business Development Plan and enhance our visibility among constituencies.
  • In collaboration with the marketing consultant, produce and maintain a content-rich website, develop advertising and promotional materials (including a quarterly newsletter), and respond to marketing opportunities as they develop.
  • Attend Board and Executive Committee meetings, contribute to program effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-term issues that must be addressed, provide information and commentary pertinent to deliberations, recommend options and courses of action and implement directives.
  • Relate to and interact with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, staff, internal and external consultants, contractors, the Board of Directors, and partners and other constituents.
  • Accept special assignments and duties as requested by the President.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform successfully in this position —

  • At least eight years’ experience in banking or lending, with a demonstrated ability to develop successful sales and marketing programs. 
  • Significant understanding of the policies and procedures required in the banking/lending industry — particularly the principles and practices of real estate secured lending, investing and financial management.
  • College degree with emphasis in Marketing, Business Administration or Sales; or a combination of academic study and experience
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
  • Ability to obtain or maintain Series 6 or 63 securities licenses
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds, experience and levels of sophistication
  • Understanding of PC technology including spreadsheet and word processing capabilities. Familiarity with graphic design, print, and electronic media a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially, as well as independently
  • Ability and willingness to work in a diverse and inclusive ministry environment, and willingness to learn and adapt to the UCC denominational culture.
