Finance Manager 

About the Organization Her Justice is a nonprofit organization that stands with women living in poverty in New York City. We recruit and mentor volunteer lawyers to provide free legal help in the areas of immigration, family, and matrimonial law to address individual and systemic legal barriers.   

100% of our clients are women living in poverty in the five boroughs of New York City.  In FY2024, 92% of our clients were women of color, 85% were survivors of intimate partner violence, 70% were mothers, and 49% spoke a primary language other than English.

Since 1993, we've provided life-changing free legal help to over 45,000 women and children and we've pursued policies that have bettered the experiences and outcomes for thousands more. Her Justice is committed to creating a more fair and functional civil justice system for women in New York City, so they can build safer, freer futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.  
Description

SUMMARY

The Finance Manager, with the Head of Finance and Operations, is responsible for Her Justice's financial health by overseeing financial operations and providing strategic financial guidance. The Finance Manager will report directly to the Head of Finance and Operations and is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the finances to ensure financial sustainability and efficiency and alignment with Her Justice's mission and strategic objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform general accounting tasks, including but not limited to account payables processing, communications with vendors, account receivables processing, and monitoring internal controls
  • Process cash receipts, reporting and reconciliations with the Development Operations team, including reconciliation of Financial Edge/Quickbooks and Raiser's Edge
  • Perform regular financial analysis and prepare detailed financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support Head of Finance & Operations with budgeting process, including communications with team leaders and identification of trends
  • Project lead collaboration in government contractual paperwork process including budgets, government grant allocation, and reporting
  • Support Head of Finance & Operations in annual audit, including donated legal services hours tracking, reconciling and reporting of general ledger schedules
  • Project lead support in financial system migration from Quickbooks to Financial Edge within first year of start, including but not limited to employee's onboarding training and continued support
  • Partner with Assistant Director of People & Culture in payroll processing and reconciliations, including benefits
  • Communication and partnership with outsourced finance consulting firm for additional finance support
  • Process paperwork for new hires, and support People & Culture and IT with user onboarding, offboarding, and transitions
  • Work with Head of Finance & Operations on updating, improving and enforcing financial policy and procedures
  • Provide general administrative support to the Director of Finance & Operations or Operations team including support with team/large meeting logistics and employee/cultural initiatives gatherings.

SKILLSET AND QUALITIES

  • Proficient in Quickbooks Desktop or financial management software, Blackbaud preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Comfort with VoiP phone platform
  • Comfort with databases, experience with database entry preferred
  • Strong experience providing support for employees
  • Experience in vendor communications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Detailed-oriented and natural curiosity to improve staff experience
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent 3-4 years of relevant work experience required
  • Additional 3-5 years of relevant work experience required

SALARY: The salary for this position is in the range of $71,914 to $89,892, depending on experience. Her Justice also offers excellent benefits, including 26 days of PTO, a 401k plan, commuter benefits, half-day summer Fridays, and employer-sponsored medical, dental, and vision benefits
